If you have a spare IDE HD, use UAE to make a bootable partition with everything you need. Your Amiga could be up and running by the end of the day.

There is a guide somewhere, I think on Thomas Rapp's web page, on how to create an Emergency Disk using a PC. You don't actually need UAE or a spare hard disk, but you do need to be able to read MSDOS disks on your Amiga (which you can with Workbench 3.1). I forget the exact details, but it basically involves putting the OS3.9 CD in to your PC, creating an archive of the Emergency-Disk drawer, transferring the archive to your Amiga, unarchiving it to a formatted, initialised floppy disk, and modifying the CD mountlist to match your hardware. I will have a look around and post a link to the guide if I can find it.

I already have an emergency disk but it only boots to a blank workbench screen.
I have booted with no startup-sequence but will only allow me to use df0 and if i do a dir on the disk it says to insert the emergency disk and so i am unable to copy the 060 libs myself?

How did you create the Emergency Disk? If you use the OS3.9 installer then it should copy the 68#?.libraries for you. Not sure about the ppc.library, but you should be able to copy them manually from a 3.1 installation.

I would offer to create the disk for you, but I have a MKIII in my A4000, so I wouldn't be able to test whether the ppc.library was working properly.

I made it when I had a Phase5 030 card a few months ago. I dont think it matters about the ppc libs just the 060 libs. i just need to be able to use workbench to access the OS3.9 cdrom and reinstall it on another SCSI hd.

@Miloo

You said that your HD died, from you're last post it appears you've replaced it and are trying to install OS3.9. Is that right? If that's the case, you don't need the 060/ppc libs or SCSI tools during installation. Use HDToolBox to partition, install 3.9, then get the missing bits later.

Yes thats right but where do i get HDToolBox?
When I boot from the emergency disk I just get a blank Workbench screen with no icons. I can move the mouse pointer and thats it!

Without being able to inspect your rescue disk, I'd guess that it has something missing or has something specific to your 030 accelerator.

Trust me, the UAE method is much, much, much, much, much easier. I recently rebuilt my A4000/PPC this way. Use UAE to get a boot partition with CD-ROM drivers, then use that to install OS3.9.

HDToolBox is supplied with Workbench.

You can use HDInstTools instead of HDToolbox and you need LoadWB to load Workbench (A4000T ROM's need the workbench.library file).
