Hi guys,
I have an A4000, CyberSCSI MK-II Modul, Maxtor SCSI HDD
and 80 Pin to 50 Pin Adapter, but the HDD is not recognized
neither by the MKII SCSI nor by the Fastlane Z3 and I don't
know what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any help.

1. How is your SCSI chain terminated?
2. What positions are all of the devices (including controller and terminator) on the cable?
3. Which type of cable are you using (how many pins?)
4. How is your hard disk jumpered for unit number?

I am a newbie in SCSI, but:
1) the adapter has built in terminator... so by the adapter?
2) SCSI modul is the first and HDD the last in line
3) 50pin cable
4) I tried ID0, ID1, ID2
When I connect my old Micropolis (50pin) HDD instead of an adaptor + Maxtor, everything works just fine.

I think the problem is that you are using an 80 way drive with a 50 way bus and thus only a 50 way terminator, which will not terminate all bits coming from the 80 way connector on the hard disk. You need to replace your cable with an 80 pin cable, disable termination on the controller, and add 80 pin terminators to BOTH ends of the cable.
I had exactly the same problem when I tried to use an 80 way hard drive with an 80->50 adapter and a 50 way cable. The fix I explained worked for me.

Ok, thanks motorollin for your help.
I'll try it. Thanks again.

No problem! Let us know how you get on, especially if that solves it :-)

I used to have a SCA80 to 50 Pin SCSI adapter and I was never able to get that thing to work.
I exausted all the options on that and just ended up using the sca80 drive in a sparc5 natively, not sure if I had a bad adapter or what.
