Title: USR Courier on A4000
Post by: irishmike on October 16, 2007, 06:15:22 PM
Hey all:

Has anyone ever hooked up a USR Courier to an A4000 (Desktop), I am fairly certain that the modem should work, but I need to find some software such as a BBS ANSI terminal package.   What would be a good one?

Thanks,

Mike

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, probably more of a software question than a hardware one, but I assume you just have to supply the proper INIT string for the modem ;-)

If the modem support the hayes protcol then pretty much any prog should work with it

Yea... Terminus was my weapon of choice back in the day...

Hey all:

Downloaded Terminus from Aminet, will give her a try!

BTW:  Not sure if you guys knew that TEO was my BBS back in '91.  I am working on re-launching it, and have been for about 2 years now.  I am thinking of putting up an "old-school" version and a modern CMS (web based) version as well. I did recently acquire MajorBBS (for the PC) and actually the folks that currently hold the rights to the software graciously transferred the legitimate license to me from the fellow who gave me the software.  So I have a 64 node BBS -- That would have been sportin' back in the day!  Anyhow, the main issue would obviously be getting a TCP stack to work that is not ancient like the machine would need to be :-)  The CMS (modern) rendition will be built upon Joomla.

Anyhow, thatis all beside the point and "off topic" -- but the Terminus sounds like a good package.

Thanks for the help!  :-D

I ran a BBS off of my A2000 using CNet back in the day. It ran for 5 years. I recently copied all the files off of my old A2000 over to my PC and got it running under WinUAE. What a hoot going through those old BBS messages. I have been toying with the idea of putting the BBS back online since I managed to get CNet working with the telnetd.device.

I've always used NComm, though Term was often referred to as more capable. NComm is very easy to use, though.

Forgot about NComm.  It is a great program, and has a free keyfile from the author.
