Title: 2002 monitor work on C128?
Post by: sprocket on October 14, 2007, 01:37:11 PM
I'm auctioning a Commodore RGB 2002 monitor on ebay and someone asked me if it would work with a C128.

I never owned a C128 and used it with an Amiga 500.

Anyone know if it will work with a C128?

from what I can find on the C128 on line it looks like it's monitor output is a round connector.

The 2002 has a 9 pin DF connector so I think it won't work.

Am I wrong?

Thanks.

Yes, the 2002 monitor will work on a C=128. It uses a different cable. An RGB I (RGB digital) which is a 9 pin to 9 pin type of cable. On back of the 2002 by the RGB input is a little black switch on it by the RGB connector on the monitor that moves it from RGB-A (which the Amiga uses) mode to RGB-I mode (C=128 Digital RGB).

The difference is RGB-I is a 16 color only mode versus the analog which gives greater number of colors. This works only in 80 column mode. For 40 Column mode they need a second DIN Cable to RCA like the C=64 uses.  You probably could still buy both of these C=128 cables from:

Redmond Cable.com (http://redmondcable.com/)

PS I used to sell 128s and Amiga 1000/500/3000/1200/4000s so I know this to be fact.

Perfect answer. Yes I can confirm as my first monitor for my first 128 was a 2002.
