Title: What? A $300 keyboard?
Post by: wa9yoz on October 13, 2007, 03:25:34 PM
Will the latest Microshaft $300 keyboard be compatible with the Amiga if you use the proper keyboard adapter & software?
But there is a cheaper one by Logitech, only $199.95...
Just wondering and wandering.....Tony

I don't see why not, provided your computer can do USB.  I've been eyeing the Logitech diNovo since it was $300, not they're  ~$100 (or ~$150 with the laser mouse).

BTW, two things.  $300 is just the MSRP.  And, it's wireless, rechargable, and comes with a laser mouse which drives the cost.

What is the difference between a regular optical mouse and a laser mouse?

I've got one of those (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=080) (I just ordered the mouse and I got the complete desktop, lol) - since it's Bluetooth, there's probably no way to run it on an Amiga, lacking an appropriate stack.

@tomas
Rather than using a simple camera, a laser mouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_mouse#Optical_mice) is more like a   laser scanner, yielding a higher resolution. Laser mice even work on (most) glass surfaces.

In this case about $80.00 :-)

Tomas,
Simple, optical uses a red light through a clear plastic (or glass) thing and uses the red light to pass signals though to the PC / Amiga etc.
Laser's basically uses a laser, obviously, (such as you would find on a CD drive) and works in a similar way but is known to be even more accurate and doesn't beam any light apart from a real tiny red dot which you would only make out by looking straight inside from a certain angle.
I'd Google or Wiki it for better more accurate detail.

tokyoracer: you might want to add a disclaimer before advising people to look at laser-beams ;-)

Even more so because they're invisible infrared lasers - you will see nothing at all until the beam has damaged your retina - DON'T!

If you insist on seeing the beam, use a camera with an electronic viewfinder - any old camcorder or modern digicam will do. May get damaged as well... :smack:
