Title: Ultimate Amiga 600 Boot Disk
Post by: HopperJF on October 08, 2007, 03:56:17 PM
Hi  :-)

Well it is Monday afternoon, I am off work, and I am bored and want to do something with my Amiga. I've decided I'm going to try and make the ultimate boot disk, since I have no HD installed. As far as I am aware I have the following disks which may be of use:

 - Workbench 2.05

 - X-Copy Professional

 - D Copy v3.1

 - Klondike (if there's room! :-))

 - A disk labelled "Copycom/LHA/Vpic", (I know LHA is a
useful utility which could be included)

I'm sure I had Extras 2.05 and others somewhere too but can't seem to find them!

So any pointers? Also, I have only really used OS 3.0, 3.1 and 3.9. Does 2.05 support background images?

Thanks for any help, just a little project to keep me and my 600 busy

 :-D

Ran into my first problem!

Booted into Workbench after digging out my mouse, but the pointer moves very very slowly. I have tried taking the ball out and giving it a good clean but it doesn't solve the situation.

Any ideas? Or is it time to get a new mouse?

I would if I could get to it... my Workbench disk has an error. This isn't going too well so far!

Plus I really think its a hardware problem, because it isnt just moving very slow,  it's crawling and moving around a little on its own.

All Prefs programs are on the Extras disk.

I'd use WB2.1 as your base - its directory hierarchy more closely resembles 3.0+. Plus there's bugfixes and better use of RAM.

Your boot disk should probably be unmodified apart from adding the contents of cfd.lha from Aminet - then put everything else on a Flash card in the PCMCIA slot.

Do not forget about the DEVS:system-configuration file, which - under KS1.x - was used to define the screen palette, pointer image, mouse speed, printer settings etc, however is still utilised under KS2.x/KS3.x.

I do not know how this file can be edited without the original 'Prefs' program from KS1.x however.

Cheers,

I think that file is completely obsoleted by the ENVARC:Sys directory. Palette, pointer, printer, and input settings are all in there.

Thanks all, looks like I have some serious hunting to do, I'm sure I seen Extras and Fonts lying around a few days ago but they seem to have vanished!  :-o

What's really lame on the mouse side of things, is that my Amiga keys and alt key aren't working so I can't even use that to move the pointer  :-(  I need a new keyboard!

It looks like I'm going to have to hold off this project for a while until I get all the things I need, then I'll post here again and we can take it from there

Cheers!  :-D
