It must have been in 1992 (maybe 1991) whem I bought my first A500, since i owned A600, A500+, A1200, CDTV, A2000 and now A4000T. I recently bought the A4000, simply the best :-)

I still have most of the abowe, byt mostly they were hit away in the closet for the last years. My interrest for Amiga went back this year, so I am happy that i kept my dear Amiga's :-)

Age 36

First experience was around 1991 or 1992 - my younger sister's A500+ that she got for Christmas. It might as well have been MY present. I couldn't get enough of it!

Later, bought my own Amiga - an A500 with 1.5MB fast ram from a friend (still have it) and then an A1200, a CD32 (to keep them both company) and lastly, an A600 to wedge the door open... :-)

Age 26.

I bought my first Amiga (A500+) in 1992 when I was 10 :-)

I used a C64 from 1987 and in those years I already experienced Amiga with the A500s of my friends.
I still remember the first time I saw the Simpson (2 disks edition) intro. I came back to home with this face:  :-o
And this was my parents reaction: :help:

I am 46 now.

I was 25 back in 1986 when I first saw an Amiga in a store. I was going to buy a Leading Edge PC-comptible, but I changed my mind when I saw the graphics, sound and music on the Amiga demo. I ordered an Amiga 1000 with the extra 256 KB RAM, external 3.5 drive, DeluxePaint and TextCraft which I got in a couple months. I still have that machine and it still works.

I still use an Amiga almost daily, but its an Amithlon. I power up my classics every once in a while for a little trip down memory lane.

My fisrt Amiga experience was with a lovely Brazillian Amiga named Dasiy...I was 18, she was 19 and  her parents weren't home and we... uh...

sorry wrong site..

My first Amiga experience Software Etc in New York City Running games on a Amiga 500. Before then I had collected every issue of the US mag Amiga World and read every issue.

I wanted to be a 2-d Animator. The fact that you could draw and animate in Deluxe paint was mind blowing.

Knew I had to have one and spent the next couple of years saving until I purchased an Amiga 1000 for $150, it was on closeout back in 1988. Then purchased 4 floppies, and a MiniMEG 2 meg ram expansion for the side slot. Then my first Amiga 1080 monitor, a Genlock, I blew my pc friends mind when they saw my Workbench desktop background configured as video from my cable TV Box.

I've since owned every model ever manufactured minus the A500+.

My first experience was about 1989 aged 25.
I played such greats as Shadow of the Beast II and The Clive Barker type game. Sh.. i cannot remember-it must be the beer.
I bought some nice hardware such as GVP A530-40mhz and the
latest ppc card 50mhz/240mhz + blizzard vision.

I just checked on everybodies favourite Google and came up with "Nightbreed" An excellent game at the time.

Got my first Amiga in 87.

Have owned, at various times:

A500, A2000, A1200, CD32, A4000T

Sold lst one (the A1200) only last year

Now reliant on Amiga Forever.

Some Amiga software is still very useful e.g. ImageFX, for which there is no substitute.

Thanks for all your comments! Some real interesting stuff put down here. I appear to be the youngest member at 18 which was a surprise but I guess we have yet to get more replies.
Also noticed that the majority of you had the "experience" in teens/20's ages. I was only about 3 or 4 playing quite simple games and that "Fun School" one. Interesting stories indeed! :-)

Rathluba, don't think I'm being rude here but I'm surprised to see someone in the 70's playing on Amiga computers. I have quite a stereotypical view that 70+ aged humans would seem lost even trying to operate a TV. Great to hear, or see anyway.

P.s. Sorry for the spelling mistake in the topic. Mod's feel free to edit it.

Age: 32 years and 51 weeks

First experience: around 1987 when one of the stores across from Radio Shack in the South Forks Plaza in Grand Forks, ND, started carrying the Amiga 1000.  I was in love, but cost relegated me to the TI-99/4A and later the C64.  Several years later a friend had one and we played SotB and TKGS, ALOT.  Around 1990 a buddy ran a BBS on his.

First owned: I bought my first Amiga 500 on my first credit card in 1993 after I returned from my first road trip in my first car!

Amiga 500 in 1988. I was 22.

It was the 'Flight of Fantasy' pack that came with 'F29 Retaliator', 'Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters' and something else I can't recall. They were in my Mothers shopping catalogue and it was a 'pay over 38 weeks' deal.

I can remember being so excited when the catalogue truck arrived and dropped it off. The following weekend, I bought 512k expansion pack and a copy of Dungeon Master. The weekend after that, an external floppy.

Nothing short of an amazing machine and it was goodbye to the C64 at that point.

I'm 16 (17 next January). I got my first Amiga (500+) in 1997, although I had used them before.

I still have that Amiga, and use it regulaly, but it has issues. The disk drive had to be replaced and the keyboard seems to not work properly. It does now have an 8833-II, an HD, a teletext adaptor and a modem, which it didn't have when I got it.

I also now have an A1200/030 which i got last year and am planning on getting a PPC sometime soon.

Saw an Amiga 1000 in a shop window late at night sometime in 86, it was facing the window displaying a Ferrari on the monitor. I spent at least 10 minutes staring at it thinking how it could be possible.

I was 15 at the time.

I am 19, will be 20 in January (uhhhh...)

My parents brought me up on Amigas. One Christmas when I was about 3 or 4 they got an Amiga 500 and encouraged me to use it through all sorts of games etc.

When my Dad was alive I remember him being ADDICTED to Wizball and Agony. And he also loved to play Another World. I have memories of being really scared when those leeches would kill him and the animation of them popping up, sticking out this "spike" thing and hacking at the leg drawing blood and killing the player. I find it hilarious when I play it myself now though... :-)

My mum used to get me the Amiga Format and CU Amiga magazines all the time and I loved the disks. She used to order stuff for me from the PD software houses too. Good times.

As the years went by the A500 wasn't as capable and they got me an A1200 one Christmas. I loved that machine, having a hard drive and WB3.0 made all the difference.

A friend at school had a dad that was very much into Amigas. He owned an A4000 and I used to love being able to play on it. I used to dream of having an A4000. It was an 040 and very quick. His son had a CD32 which my mum bought from his family when they got a PlayStation, so one Xmas I got the CD32.

Gradually my A1200 got upgraded, Blizzard 030MkIV, and the CD32 got networked to the A1200 with NetworkCD2 and a serial cable (to use the CD drive), and I used this setup all the way up until 1999 as my main computer. It did all my schoolwork etc, used to do wordprocessing on Final Writer with pics from Deluxe Paint and clipart CDs.

When 1999 came we decided the Amiga wasn't going to get me through middle and high school, so that was when we got our first PC, and the Amiga was retired for a few years.

Until it got pulled out again to quench my nostalgic thirst. My friend and I decided to towerize it, and we converted it into a tower case and I bought an A2000 keyboard to use it with. That lasted a few years, and then I began to pursue my dream of owning an Amiga 4000.

Now I have an A4000 with a CSPPC 060/50, 604e/233, 128+16+2MB RAM, GRex 4000D, Voodoo3, Sony 19inch Trinitron, Terratec 512i, Realtek LAN card, CompServ Scandoubler II, Algor PRO USB, DVD drive and 36GB UWSCSI hard disk. It gets used every day and I love it to bits. It took about a year to acquire all the parts and cost me all my wages, but hell it was worth it. :-)

And that's my Amiga story.

I'm 35 next week  :-o .
I was about 14 when I saw my first Amiga around about 86, had been brought up on commodore pet, vic-20 then a c64 so always bought the commodore magazines and saw the amiga in them.

Spent the next couple of years drooling over them in the mags.

As soon as I saw Sword Of Sodan and the size of the sprites I had to have one so got a A500 sometime around early 89 I think.

Been collecting them eversince.

Paul.

Ah yes... memories!

I'm an old git, of 39.

My first Amiga experience was back in 1985 hearing about my friend's brother's A1000 (one of the first in Melbourne).

I then drooled over the various magazine previews and reviews and finally got an A500 in 1987, I think... Moved on to an A1200 in 1992 and finally sold it last year, after leaving it in the cupboard since 1998! Now I'm an occasional WinUAE user...

Age 20, 21 next month.

First Amiga experience: Playing on a friend's A500+ with Commodore 1084S monitor around 1994/95. Used to love Lemmings, McDonaldLand, SWOS and Ultimate Soccer Manager. I used to love the purple Workbench disk prompt screen, and the fact that you could use a game save disk to save where you were up to in a game (I was used to the cartridges of the Sega Megadrive/Genesis, where such a thing was rarely possible).

I got around to getting my first Amiga in 1999, an Amiga 600 for the price of just £6 + a 2MB PlayStation memory card. Bargain! Came with some great games too.
Unfortunately the day I got it the F4 key went missing. I also bought my first Atari 520 ST at the same time, which I preferred at the time because I had a lot more games for it. I didn't have many disks for the Amiga. But it was obvious to me that the Amiga was the more powerful machine with better sound and better graphics. Better games too.

I used to love playing on Cannon Fodder and was amazed even in 1999 with the graphics on Beneath A Steel Sky. 15 disks!  :-o That amazed me too hehe.

I swopped the Amiga 600 to a friend in 2000 in exchange for an Amiga 500 because I preferred the A500, but I then swopped that A500 for a SNES. I sold the SNES, and got an A1200 in Christmas 2000. I used this and upgraded it into a tower with 8Mb RAM, 030, CD-ROM, 1Gb HD and OS 3.9 but sold in 2002, it was a VERY unstable system!!!
After a brief run-in with the AmigaOne in 2002/03 I left the Amiga and switched to Mac.
I now use a PC. :-P

Last year I became re-united with the same Amiga 600 and it is currently hooked up to the TV, still with the missing F4 key. I have a lot of games for it now  :-D

PS.. If anyone has a spare Amiga 600 keyboard please PM me!

Seems i am pretty typical:

I am 32 now, and got my first hands on Amiga experience back in what must have been 86 or maybe early 87...I was 12 years old, and this was an Amiga 1000 with a loaded Workbench. What a beauty, nevertheless I was a little bit disappointed, for i didn't know what to do with it.

You know, on the usual Homecomputer of that age you could type in stuff like
10 print "Spectrum 48k sucks!!"
20 goto 10
run

and had some stupid fun.. ;)

but with the workbench, i didn't know exactly what to make out of this.

Anyway, i got my first Amiga (a 500) in Christmas 87, but lost interest in computers somehow around late 1991. At that time i already felt that the pc would crush the Amiga into pieces, to be honest. Seeing Wing Commander and Gunship 2000 in all of their glory, i felt the Amiga was quite underpowered, and Doom in 93 really sealed their fate.

Anyway, the Amiga is still a big love affair of mine. It was the only computer with its own character in these 22 years i am into computers now. Everything else was just silicon.

I am 31 years old.

First acquaintance with the Amiga 500 (as my own computer) was around 1987 during which I was 11 years old. Later the A500 was succeeded by an Amiga 2000 (Kickstart 2.04)
Previously had owned an Amstrad CPC6128 since 1985 :)

Nowdays I have a working CPC6128, a C64c, an Amiga600HD and looking forward to obtaining a A3000 but these are hard to come by in Europe.

I'm 27.. 28 in a month!

I got my first Amiga 1000 back in 1993. I think my Mom paid $200 for it. Had lots of software.. box, extra drive, memory etc. I showed my Dad, and he found some Amiga 2000s in the trash.. we had them for the longest time, using Pagestream and Deluxe Paint and DCTV... Then I got an A3000 and a Retina Z2 video card.. and I couldnt find too many resources online for help and I sold it to someone who was helping with some kind of Linux port to Amiga.. he was from San Diego...

I got the Amiga Itch™ again and bought a A1200 and upgraded  the ROMs from Anti-Gravity (remember the BoXeR guys??) had that thing forever.. then sold it and had a 4000T for ahwile.. then got another 1200 at a yard sale and built it into a tower...now I'm back! I have:

3 A4000s
1 A1200
1 A2000

Nothing like the Amiga.. the hardware has a personality for sure... I sure miss my first 1000.. used to stay up late playing games and looking for a sidecar expansion HD!

I am going to be 32 the middle of this month.

The first time I saw an Amiga was in 1990.  The cable access studio for my town was located in the high school.  They got in an Amiga 2500.

Around this time my friend got an A500.  I would later buy that off him for my first Amiga in 1992. (I had bought his C64C and still have that old girl.)

I have owned 2 different A500's, one of which I still have.  I also owned an A2000 that never worked right.  I had an A3000 blowup on me.  I have an A4000D that is going to be going to a new home soon.

I run AmiKit on my PC.  I also have an A1200 in a tower that I want to make more functional.

I was out of the Amiga scene after the 2000 didn't work and my A300 just plain died on me for a few years.  I lucked out on getting the A4000 and now the A1200 tower.

When I was 14...

It'll be 5 years to the day on the tenth. My first Amiga experience was the most eye-opening thing I could have ever done. I remember, giggling like a 6th grader after finding his dad's stash of old playboys... Except it was his old Amiga1000, which I still have to this day.

I sat down in the living room and pulled out of its box...

Covered with the dust of the ages, I blew on it, and was puzzled by what I saw. I had no idea what this archaic beast was, all I knew was that I wanted it.

I turned it on...
Waited...
Waited...
the screen was flashing strange colors of which I could only familiarize with LSD.

And then I saw it...

THE HAND!

It had startled me so much I nearly cried with terror!. It was hungry, so I fed it a disk.

Then it wanted more. So I fed it another.

Workbench 1.3, what the hell is Workbench?

Ah no matter, I wanna use this thing!

Long hours were spent making it say funny things and trying to figure out how to make it say them properly...

Megaball, Lemmings, Blood Money, Dungeon Master (lalala... Aw crap, here comes a monster!), BEYOND ZORK!

This created my childhood. Other kids had Playstations. Other kids had Pokemon cards. Other kids had friends. I had my Amiga.

It changed my life.

It only fits that I turn people on to the power of the Amiga, albeit through the powers of Emulation, through a modded Xbox, in that very same living room.

I've had plenty of firsts in my life, my first guitar, my first bike, my first kiss... But I'd trade it all away to relive that one day... The best birthday present I could ever receive... My Amiga.

-edit-
I played with it for about three years after i found it... Then it sat around for a while. Now I'm back at it with a fervor that surpasses the first with a breakneck force!

I seem to be in good company here being 31 years old myself. But nice to see that we have some "Next Gen" Amiga Users growing up here, and hope we will get more of them with the release of new (maybe "cheap" hardware. I think i had my first AMIGA at about 14-15.

I'll be 30 in a few months.

I saw an A1000 running Deluxe Music Construction Set sometime in 1989 and I knew right then and there that I had to have an Amiga.  Of course, I was 12 at the time, so I had to make do with my C64.  I bought a green 880K floppy with my allowance money as a consolation, even though I couldn't do anything with it.

In 1990 my dad got me a 2nd-hand A1000.  Being in so late in the game, and living in the USA, of course it was difficult to get any software, but I finally used my green floppy to store some Deluxe Paint pictures and documents written with Scribble.  I was in heaven.

I pre-ordered the A1200 by four months, so I had one of the first A1200's in New England.  It's still my favorite computer of all time, but I remember how disappointed I was in the performance with the 020 and AGA chipset, even with the fast RAM card I added later.  If only the fabled A1000+ had been released!

I couldn't get much software for my A1200, so I made my own.  Pinball Illusions was the last game I managed to buy in a store, which oddly was also the first "real" AGA game I owned.  I remember arguing passionately about the merits of the Amiga, and how much PC users rolled their eyes.

Ah, well.  I still got my money's worth out of the machine, along with a passion for proper UI design.

I mostly use WinUAE now.  I use my A1200 maybe once a month to play DuneII, which doesn't run correctly under emulation.

I remember being at a friend's house once when I was some 9 years old, and they had a computer with a program that could make the computer speak. I don't know if it was an Amiga (only been there once and I wasn't much into computers at that age), but it could as well have been an Amiga 1000.

Apart from that, when I was around 12-13 (somewhere in 1990/1991) I spent quite a few afternoons at another friend, who had an A500. I was absolutely addicted to all those high-tech games (we had an XT with CGA monitor at home), so I wanted one as well. A few months later I bought my very first A500.

Now, some 16 years have passed, 4 of which without any Amiga, and currently I own 8 Amigas, and there are about 8 more on their way to my home.

Im 28 now by the way.

I remember watching Another world intro and wolfchild, moonstone etc skid marks nd stunt car racer & jimmy whites and pinball dreams/fantasy's and I knew this computer was for me.

I loved using Dpaint and protracker and octamed.

Age 37:
First Amiga Experience: 17(?) years old at a friends' who strangely was an Atari ST fan. One day, he has an A500 next to his beloved Atari 1040ST. Didn't actually think much of the 500, until he loaded up Adventure Construction Set... and I heard what actually sounded like trumpets coming from a computer, in stereo no less! Then he showed me DPaint...
In April 15, 1988 I bought an A500 bundle with my first Tax Refund :) Sadly, my 500 is no longer with us, but my 1200's, 4000's, and CD32 keep its' memory alive.....:)

Hi,

I´m 34. My first contact with the Amiga was in late 1990, with a borrowed A500. I had just switched from a Sinclair Spectrum compatible to a 386 with a green monitor, and I found it so crappy compared to 8 bit stuff that I thought computing future was doomed. Then I´ve found the Amiga, and got really happy !!
I´ve managed to get a brand new A1200 in 92. They were expensive, because Brasil had a law in the 80´s and early 90´s forbidding to import computers and also forbidding foreign companies to produce then here. No Amigas, no Macs, no Ataris, no 64´s...

29 (30 in December)

First experience was in 1990 playing Speedball 2 on my friend's A500 (with the 512k RAM expansion).

Got my first and only Amiga (A1200) for Christmas 1992.

Staunch advocate of the Amiga, although in a moment of weakness I got my first PC in 2000...

I am now 36.
It was back around 1985 when I was about 14.

I saw the A1000 advertised in a computer magazine. A few months later I bought one! I added on the front mem expansion as well as an additional 2Mb internal mem expansion. There were a few of us at high school with them but things got interesting when I went to university where I bought an A2000 and put in a GVP 030/40Mhz accel. There were a LOT of us at university with Amigas. Ahhh... the good old days.

The old A2000 is still set up after all these years for my kids to play on. My 9 yr old loves it.

My first Amiga(s) where the A500,A1200 and CD32 i bought them at a carboot for £3 each on the same day and all on one stall. It was in 2004 so i was 10, I have been hoocked since i played Dark side on the A500 i havent upgraded the machines unless you count adding a HD to the A1200. I have added a A500+ to the collection but i really want a "big box" amiga but since im 13 cash is a bit hard but whatever money i get is either on Michael Jackson merchindise/records or computers! Im very retro but im still a bit of a noob. Im desparate for a A2000 or A4000 at the moment :D i love them :D but just allot of money on ebay right now :( I hope fully will have a upgraded A2000/A4000 on my birthday on March 29. :D

I'm 28 and I guess I'd have been 8 or 9 when I first played on a friends A500. I remember It totally blew me away. It was just such an amazing machine but it was a few years before I got one of my one. The one I first owned was my friends machine and I got it because he was selling it to get something newer, I think he got a A1500 or A200. Doesn't matter, that was my first Amiga.

I've still got it too! :-D Though the 512KB expansion for it has had some nasty battery leakage and needs a good clean before I attach the new battery I bought from AmigaKit. The machine itself is still going strong.

First Amiga experience: 1987 when I saw a friend's Amiga 1000. At the time I couldn't decide whether I should buy an Apple IIc or 8088 clone. The decision was easy after seeing the Amiga in action. I immediately bought an Amiga 500. I have owned Amigas ever since and now own a microA1, A3000 and A2500. I wish I had kept my original A500 though.

btw, seem to be a lot of us still around from near the beginning 1986/87. Nice to see.

Started out with a C64, Saw my first Amiga at my friends house in 1989?  Showed me Shadow of the Beast, and I was hooked.  Went out and got a 500, became a Sysop on some of the Local CNet boards, got out of the scene and gave all my stuff away (A500,A1000,A2000,A1200, ect..)

Now just getting back into them!

AGE then: 12 (AGE NOW: 33)

First experience was with a friend whose parents just bought him a brand new tricked-out Amiga 1000.

He was mad, when just a couple years later, I purchased my Amiga 500 that had more memory, Kickstart in ROM instead of on floppy, etc.

I would have been 13, just turning 14 when I got my Amiga 500.

Without sounding cheesy, the impact of the Amiga on my youth and subsequently my life is practically indescribable.  While I know others with PCs have similar sounding stories, the mere fact that the amiga wasn't standard meant that you had understand the technology to use the technology effectively.

 Age: 41.

 First experience: a funny story.

Back in 1989, I was sort of peecee geek (argh!). I use to program. One day I was charged to build a program (DOS only) to one local video VHS rental store.

Here the 3.5" was a novelty! I had one of those new drives in my powerful 286 ().

Then I borrowed a copy of the program to a friend of mine. When I get to his home (in order to talk with him and take my floppy back), I sat he running the proggy. I just don't understand where the computer was (I only sat a "strange", large keyboard)...

Then he grab the mouse (never haved sat one real mouse before, click on the top the screen (with my program running) and he show me the Amiga Graphical Interface (aka Workbench)! I was stunned!!! :insane:

I don't rest until he told me what that strange computer is.

Since them I am an addicted.

My first Miggy was an A500, then an A1200, etc...
