Title: Writable Control Store

I was reading the premiere issue of Amiga Plus and in a review for Dragons Lair it said that the Amiga 1000 version could run on only 512kb because the programmers utilised the WCS giving them an extra 256KB to work with. Was this common for software on the 1000? If not, why?
