Recently hooked up my A1200. I don't have any extra memory so i've got the stock 2mb of chip. How can I free up more room? Should I uninstall MagicWB? I've got like 500K free after boot. '
I can't ctrl+Amiga+Amiga to restart anymore.. any ideas? All the other keys seem to be working fine...
And finally I got a RocTec floppy.. when attatched the A1200 has a hard time booting, has a lot of read errors from the hard drive.. when remove the roctec, my hd is ok.. any idea?? Seems really weird!

Hi, if this is a standard PSU, then you could be looking at its demise !
From what you have said, you appear to have an A1200 with a hard drive but no memory expansion (odd !)
Do you have an A500 PSU to try ?
As for the restart buttons not working, that could mean a replacement keyboard :-(

Hi Pan1k:
If you have a stock 1200, definatly get rid of MagicWB. Try using no more than a 4 color screen for your WB, will fee a little memory. Amiga hardware is getting hard to find, but get a memory upgrade when you can. Not only will you have more free RAM left after boot, but your 1200 will work a bit faster too.
Really, I didn't start to add any 'bells and whistles' to my WB until I had upgraded my machine considerably. A stock 1200 doesn't let you add much....
I have no clue about you prob. with the RocTec floppy. Have never heard of that happening... maybe someone else could help?

Ok... I think i'll wait.. I need a crystal for my Apollo '040, and if nobody wants it, it will go back into my A1200. My keyboard is brand new...kinda odd huh?

The A1200 c+a+a reboot isn't instant. You might need to wait upto 10 seconds for the system to actually reboot (this can happen for example if some app using resethandler is stuck and doesn't respond).

Haha.. ok but i've waited like 5 minutes.. I know the 020 isn't that slow.. :) I'll try to reseat the ribbon cable for the kb ...

My A1200 is 2mb/120mb HD as well....

Anything more than 10 seconds means something is b0rken indeed.

if an app doesn't secede after being invoked on reset, is there a possibility of infinite hang with no reset?

No. (There's this 10 second watchdog timer after which the system reset line is pulled, regardless)

Mmm i think it's the keyboard...

I have an a12k mobo on it's way to my place and no kb for it. I have the schematics for the a12k, when i get the board i'm going to castrate the on board kb controller and patch in an amiga keyboard to the cia via the kbclk and kbdat line. This should work right?

It works. Been there, done that.

I agree with another poster about the power supply being suspect, especially when you add another drive. It's really easy to convert older PC power supplies to power the 1200 and you'll have wattage to spare.
EDIT: I've worn out several keyboards. Commodore used several different keyboard suppliers. For me, individual keys would become intermittant and finally stop working all together. Upon dis-assembly, the rubber carbon pad on the bottom of the key wore down. I never found a way to patch this. Cleaning with isopropyl makes it worse, grin.

A basic piece of advice: as said, get some extra fast ram and use FBlit (http://www.tpec.u-net.com/downloads.html) to reduce chip ram usage.
