Title: DiscreetFX, Partners want to buyout Amiga Inc.
Post by: Starrunner on September 28, 2007, 09:17:16 PM
Found this on osnews.com.  I found it interesting:

Tedd Gallion, speaking on behalf of a group called the DiscreetFX partners, has sent out a letter to the Amiga community with quite an interesting topic: to buy out the AmigaOS4 and the Amiga brand from Amiga, Inc. The letter states that DiscreetFX and its partners have contacted Amiga, Inc., but that the company asked a completely insane amount of money. DiscreetFX and its partners now ask the community to contact Amiga, Inc., and urge them to sell the Amiga OS and its brand to DiscreetFX for a fair price. "Urge Amiga Inc. sell to us for a fair price. We will end the lawsuit, we will end the fighting., we will end the madness. If we were in charge Amiga OS 4.0 would be available today on SAM." Spelling and grammar weren't exactly a priority in the letter, so credibility is a bit dubious. UPDATE:  The credibility has been more or less confirmed.

Yes, DiscreetFX made some noises about this some months back.  Recently I did wonder where they were with it but couldn't find any progress.  Thanks for the update.

I don't know if contacting AInc would really help.  Probably best to let it die a long slow death and pick over the carcass.

I wonder how much they offered and how much AInc requested.

why don't you ask Pyromania? He might be able to straighten it out. :-)

DFX made this proposal many many months ago. Amiga Inc returned with an undisclosed but "ridiculous" buy-out price and things have stagnated ever since. Well except for the lawsuit with Hyperion I guess. This lastest post from DFX I think was a bit of venting of frustration that we all share about the situation, but it wasn't a new topic as OSNews makes it seem.

I think it's vital to examine DirectFX throughly before condoning anything on their behalf.

I think another risk is if Amiga Inc goes bancrupt and the intellectual property is bought for a low price by someone that have bad intentions.

@Plaz

I guess it was unfair to be asked to pay more than he had. That's ridiculous!!!!1111

Perhaps he thought Amiga wasn't worth anything. Do we want people in charge who think Amiga is worthless?

Anyway  :roll:

Just a quick copy of my comment to the open letter...with a slight edit..

Ok let's do the math (hopefully right this time ...)
Prokom Software SA bought 800.000 "shares" (2,3%) of AMIGA Incorporated for a price of 2,5 US-Dollar each.

So whole AMIGA INC. (100%) should be up for sale for about : 86.956.521,74$ (US) in Mc. Bills and Mr. Pentti Kouri's eyes. :crazy:

Having some companys that buy shares of the other companys in posession is a nice thing if you want to inflate their value... or bleed money from them.
