I am wondering about whats behind AmiTCP actually... Because, I know that Miami is based oppon a BSD stack. But AmiTCP/Genesis, ..thats a Amiga original TCP/IP stack right?
2.
Why is the transferspeed in Genesis/AmiTCP about 300000cps faster than Miami? Is this because of the BSD stack emulation or something in Miami, or what?
It would be nice if people come up with something here... Greetings, Michal

IIRC AmiTCP is faster than Mami with Sana2 drivers, but with MNI drivers (specially written for Miami) Miami is as fast or faster.
Not all network cards have MNI drivers, though.

IIRC AmiTCP is also based on BSD.

Odd...on my system (1200/PCMCIA) Miami is
definately faster.

I don't know about the speed issues, but I do know that Miami's InetD is pretty bad. Don't know about MiamiDx though. On the other hand, Miami supports DHCP, which is missing in AmiTCP.

I have used AmiTCP off and on for many years now... I think some of the early versions were based on BSD, and then they branched further and further away from that over versions. I don't know if any of the current Genesis really shares code with anything.

I noticed a large speed increase (~300+kb/sec - it didn't change surfing much, but transfers across the LAN were getting notably better speeds!) going to Genesis, too. And this was over Miami with MNI drivers for an X-Surf vs. Genesis with stock drivers for an old C= 10-b-2 card. The X-Surf may have been damaged goods all along, though, so I'm not sure how much my observations are worth. Just an interesting data point. My X-Surf passed away young, hence the switch...

You're right... Genesis doesn't seem to support DHCP so well. Bootp may work, though. Seems like I have it enabled....

The DHCP isn't really an issue for me, though. I've got this nifty broadband router that takes care of all that stuff for me. Plus I can have four computers online at once.
I wouldn't know about the speed increase since I just have an unregistered copy of Miami for testing stuff on lo0 (gW3S etc.).
