Title: Some availp96 util for CGX?
Post by: Flashlab on September 23, 2007, 10:52:42 AM
I'm trying to install my CVisionPPC. After a lot of hassle I finally managed to install CGX3. Warp3D  doesn't work though... All apps crash with the message "Not enough video memory". Is there a way to see how much memory of the CVision is left? Or is this probably not the real problem and something else is messed up in my install?

I ordered CGX4 but it hasn't arrived yet. Could this solve my trouble?

I never got any Warp3D app working with my BVision. They always crashed for no apparent reason.

Even if you got apps running dont expect miracles from Permedia2 chip or from 3D accelerated Amiga games at general.

@Flashlab:

Well, that were clear answers, but false ones... there's definetly something wrong with your install. Maybe you mixed up CGFX and P96? I saw that you've installed a PicassoIV, too.

BTW have a look at the WOS prefs, especially termination. It should be set to 2 and there is a video mem setting, that should be Always use/$E0000000

I have a very similar system running here (CSPPC/CVPPC with CGFX4) and it's working without any hassles, running Heretic2, GLQuake and many other Warp3D applications. Even my good old A1200 equipped with a CV 64/3D has no problems with Warp3D, albeit it's a little bit, err, slow ;)

I did a clean install for CGX 3; so no P96 traces left.

I'll try with the WOS settings!

@whose

I keep getting a powerpc exception and error messages from Quake 2.

Error message are "No ZBuffer: memory shortage" and "[MGLLockDisplay] Unable to lock"...

@Flashlab

I know nothing about Q2 as I don't own it. Is Q2 the only app remaining with these errors? I ask because you should have a running W3D system first (demo apps running with acceleration) before you try to get things like Q2 running.

BTW did you try to lower resolution? Maybe the CVPPC memory is indeed too small for higher resolutions of Q2. I remember some problems with GLQuake and textures >256*256 pixels...

Well I can't get any app to work ;-)

Did some more reading and it seems my CGX3 install is too old. My CVisionPPC monitor driver is version 2.5 and the docs say you need 2.7 beta 3 at least... Can't find any newer drivers. So I'll have to wait for CGX4 to arrive!

Well I got Warp3D running on MorphOS. So at least I know it's a software problem on OS3.9.

EDIT: Spoke too soon I guess. After a reboot Warp3D doesn't work any more on MOS...

Well CGX 4 did fix my troubles!

The only game that I can't get to work is GLQuake...
