Title: More help please
Post by: Lilkit on July 05, 2003, 11:54:00 PM
Okay, since the '040 in my a1200 is officially dead, I am thinking of upgrading my system (from necessity) to possibly a viper '060.  But, I was hoping to get SCSI, so I can use an old 3x SCSI cd-rom that's laying around.

Is there some way to add SCSI to this accelerator, or simply adding it internally to the 1200, but avoiding going pcmcia (a network card is going in there)?

If there is no SCSI solution (or it's too expensive) is there a way to run an IDE cd-rom off the internal IDE controller built into the 1200?  The drives are ridiculous cheap.  I'm going to need a cd-rom to install wb3.9.

All help is very appreciated.

P.S. - I'm in the USA, so don't think it's feasible to order parts from overseas.  Pointing me towards a good site (other than Softhut, I know it already) for new or used parts would be good, too.  :-)

All info you could ask for about Amiga hardware is at http://www.amiga-hardware.com/.

There is also a SCSI solution which sits on top of your internal IDE interface, but I wouldn't recommend that.

Your internal IDE controller will run an IDE CD-ROM just fine. But there is no external IDE standard, so you'd either have to have it outside, with external power and an ugly ribbon cable protruding out of your A1200, or build it all into a tower.
