Title: Help building an passive audio mixer.
Post by: IonDave on September 22, 2007, 08:40:20 PM
One for any electronics whizzes...

I'm building a passive audio combiner/mixer using this (http://www.tkk.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/linesum.html) as a reference. I'm doing so to mix my amiga's native audio with a sound cards. I could just plug the native out into the sound cards line in but this doesn't work for games where the sound card's mixer isn't running.

Idealy I plan to have two rca phono sockets for the output and two rca plugs and a 3.5mm jack plug as the input. 3.5mm jacks have a single ground shield and the rca inputs obviously have one per channel (2). Will combining the left and right shields of the rca's with the jack shield effect audio quality? Would it be better to have two pairs of rca inputs and use a 3.5mm jack -> phono converter at the sound card. My understanding of electronics suggest it shouldn't make a difference, but it's been long time since I got my GCSE electronics certificate. :)

I used that circuit and it sounded fine. I also replaced the resistors with potentiometers to allow control of the volume level of each channel.

Just connect all shields together and it will be fine.
