Title: Reviving an A4000 - problems!
Post by: McVenco on September 22, 2007, 08:08:09 PM
I bought a nearly complete A4000/030 a while ago, and I'm trying to get it to work while taking some parts from my other A4000s.

When I bought it, it lacked a Buster chip, a floppy drive and a CPU card. I ripped those from one of my other machines and installed them, but the only thing I get thusfar is a blinking powerlight, and a grey screen (there seems no difference in shades of grey when I reset the machine).

What can be the problem? I already tried 2 different CPU cards, a different Chip RAM SIMM, and I pushed down all socketed chips.

Any idea?

McVenco:

Tried all the obvious already? Like stripping the A4000 to its lowest form of life (2 MB Chip, no fast, no harddisks, no keyboards, no mice.... ) and then start it? Tried different Kick-ROMS? PCB around the clock-battery still okay? Oh... and probably even more interesting: How's the jumper-settings on the main-board? I vaguely remember the same behaviour on my A3k when I had been messing around with those settings.

Yesp, I tried every possible way. Even swapped some parts from my other A4000s (daughterboard, simms, PSU, CPU card, ROMs), but nothing. So I have no clue what it could be...

Jumper settings are the same as my other, working A4000s, and the battery area is clean (battery removed)

How about the Power Supply? Might want to test it.
