Title: Amiga WiFi
Post by: captainmoomoo on September 22, 2007, 04:56:58 PM
Hi all,

Does anybody know if it is possible to get my new A4000D to connect to a wifi network?

Only with a Zorro Ethernet card and a Wireless Bridge.

[EDIT]
You could also connect the Ethernet card to a clockport, like on a KickFlash. But you do need an Ethernet card of some kind.

If you have time to wait... the upcoming ZorroIII USB2 High Speed bridge from e3b looks good.

I imagine that Wireless USB dongles will be one of the first supported.

Captainmoomoo,

I use a wireless ethernet bridge #WET11 from Linksys.
You plug an ethernet cable between it and the ethernet
card in your A4000.  You assign the WET11 an ip address
different from the one in the A4000.  The WET11 has an
antenna which will communicate with your base.  I actually
plugged my WET11 into a powered hub with 5 ports and can
plug in several Amiga's.

It's possible to use a PCMCIA wireless card plugged into a PCMCIA-to-PCI bridge that is in turn plugged into a Prometheus, but if you don't already have a Prometheus, the wired-to-wireless bridges already mentioned are definitely a better option.

@Drag
does your access point/wifi router/.. have IP address in same subnet as Amiga 4000?

@Orange

Yes.  It's a home system all on the same subnet.

I'm surprised. Isn't it possible to plug a PCI wifi card into a Mediator? Has nobody made drivers?

An option to explore for the Amiga 4000D is the Amiga PicoWify project  https://github.com/niklasekstrom/picowyfy (https://github.com/niklasekstrom/picowyfy)

You need a Zorro board with a clockport connector

I tried calling d on my A4000D and works wonderfully 😀

What's the best avaliable option for a Zorro board with clockport(s) right now though?

What's the best avaliable option for a Zorro board with clockport(s) right now though?

There are a few options:

- Icomp Buddha cards have a Clockport
- latest Prometheus Daughterboard now has a Clockport
- 8 bit dreams over on Amibay sells network cards with built in IDE and Clockports.
- The new ACILL Upgraded Saft6luck A4000D motherboards now come with Clockports Revsion 2.2 +

Take your pick.
