Hello,
Recently dug out my old A1200 and was shocked to read there is an IDE interface in there!!!
Couple of questions:
1. I have brought the IDE interface cable, can I use any 2.5" IDE HDD? (sorry I know this is a H/W question but my 2nd question is more important)
2. Once I have installed the drive will the Amiga still let me boot from floppy and if so do I install Workbench on there by booting into Workbench and formatting / installing Workbench from there?
Thanks guys!
Brian

Most of new 2.5"IDE HD work nice. Even if you install Wb on HD, you can use floppy drive as boot drive. Simply put disk in and reset (LAmiga,RAmiga,Ctrl).
Also during reset if hold L+R mouse buttons you will see Early Startup Menu where you can select boot drive and some others options.

Nice one - cheers for the info TNovosel :) I'll post how I get on when I get a chance give it a try.

A nice chap named InTheSand has written a good tutorial on how to install the harddrive, which can be found here (http://www.cdv.co.nz/support/amiga/001/).
As TNovosel mentions, the Amiga tries to boot from floppy first, then hdd.

That's a brilliant guide - thanks very much!

Hi britonk, be aware that there is a rather low (4GB ?) limit unless you are installing a later OS such as 3.9 (or patching the file system), and then you should be OK. I think the HD A1200 also came with an extra floppy for HD installation, so you may need to dig around for that :-)
Good luck :-D
