Hi, has anyone else noticed the crazy antics regarding 'Amiga' items on EBay lately? Sure, this has been discussed to death,
but is really *&%#@*'ing me off lately.... First item, selling DOpus V. 4, sure it includes thae manual and box, but manual and binary V. 4.16 are on Aminet....
Second, maybe 5 1/4" disks are super-duper rare in some areas, but locally I bought 3 10-packs of Maxell disks for about $ 1.99 US each, less than a year ago, at a local hardware store, of all places..

5 1/4" floppies fits Apple Amiga more/url]
Aside from the fact that Amiga's came with 3 1/2" drives as standard, anyone else agree, or have seen similar 'almost-a-scam' auctions??
...on EBay, everything is 'RARE' or 'VINTAGE'.....
Ack,I can't get the links to work , sorry.... (http://cgi.ebay.com/DIRECTORY-OPUS-4-FOR-AMIGA-500-600-1200-3000-4000_W0QQitemZ180160796563QQihZ008QQcategoryZ4598QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem/url)

I'll take a printed manual over a digital one any day of the week.
-
and so? Diropus 4.12 was commercial.
Where the point?
-
@Framiga: the point is, why pay for Dopus 4.12, when 4.16 is available for free?? It's not being developed anymore for Amiga.....can you even buy Dopus 4.12 anymore? If so, then I take back my statement.....
-
Don't buy it then.

I know what you mean, but my printed commercial Dopus manual is 'lost', packed up somewhere in a stack of boxes from my last move. When I 'lose' the digital one, I just download a new one :)

Yep, you are correct... this has been widely discussed before but it doesn't hurt to bring it up again.
The simple fact is the AMIGA, like any other product is a commodity that can be bought or sold, new or used. While I agree that some AMIGA related items are too overpriced, there are other items that will only go up in value because they cannot (easily) be replaced (motherboards, chips, etc..).
Sellers are merely putting a monitary value out there. If someone bites, they will sell again at a similar price. If no one bites, prices will eventually change.
You (as the potential buyer) have all the power here... if you don't like the price, don't bid on it. It's only a buyer's market as long as someone is willing to pay the posted price.

I do get irritated with eBay as well, but I hate to say it, Amiga's ARE "rare" and "vintage" I have never seen an Amiga in a thrift store, and last time I checked Wal-Mart is not selling Amiga stuff. LOL

So you also would like to have a harddrive full of E-books rather than a (few) cupboard(s) filled with books?
Some people find it worthwile to have actual printed stuff, rather than reading through some digital manual. I have some books on Amiga programming, as well as digital documents, but nothing beats a little post-it note stuck to a few pages when you're browsing back and forth through a paper manual. Try scrolling or pressing PgDn/PgUp against that for speed.
Finally, it's better for your eyes to read from paper than from a computer screen...

You should not laugh at software complete in box with manual. There are collectors who would like the complete package (although they are few in comparison with games collectors).

My pet peeve is "HUGE LOT"
It's great when it's true.

There is no greater feeling than running by your bookshelf at top speed, reaching out and grabbing a book at random as you whiz by, then when you get where you're going you realize that the book you grabbed was something you'll actually learn from while taking an emergency ride on the porcelain train.
There's no worse feeling than realizing you've just grabbed your wife's copy of American Florist when it's too late to go back for another.

I think what is really irritating is these threads that come it seems every few weeks about someone complaining about eBay Amiga auction prices.
If you don't like the price, don't bid. If you don't like eBay, stop visiting there and then complaining about it here.
It is a huge waste of bandwidth and hot air. It is, what it is, for better or worse. If you know what you are doing, it is a useful place to increase your Amiga collection, probably the best resource for "Rare" Amiga items that you probably couldn't find elsewhere.
The only time I get worked up about eBay auctions is when the seller is a crook and is selling something that is not his/hers to sell (pirated software)
My advice, get over it and get on with your life. It is short and too precious to be wasted on such trivial annoyances.

I don't see why either auction should irritate anyone. Unless someone is taking stuff off aminet and selling it on ebay, big woop. The guy is selling a presumably original item in the case of Dopus. Sure, you could download some bits from aminet, but it's more fun to have a tangible object on your shelf. As for the floppies, it's in the Commodore section, not the Amiga section. Either way, I do remember seeing a 5 1/4" floppy drive for Amiga being sold on ebay not too long ago.
Something, though, that should irritate people is how wide this thread is. :madashell:

@weirdami: OK, I just searched 'Amiga' on EBay, as is my habit, some sellers don't list Amiga items in the right catagory... I know there was a 5 1/4" floppy for Amiga, I thought I mentioned it in my first post... I just thought the price was out of line compared to what I have payed for them recently...
@everyone else: you're right, manual's and boxes are nifty, etc. .... Maybe I need to veer away from EBay for a while, after all, I got my best Amiga deals locally from friends... (1 A4000, 1 A600HD, CD32, about 100 Amiga CD's, and more floppies than I can count (or store)
Who needs thrift shops?
Sorry to irritate so many of you, was just stating my opinion :-?

You're not specifically irritaing us (I don't think) but you have hit a nerve with many because this topic just won't go away. At least your last post was far more reasonable than others who have started similar topics. :-)
While everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, you have to be careful where you post it. This site is not known for being quiet. ;-)
