Hey peeps,
I recently had a bizzare yearing to get an A500 (probly the upcoming speedball 2 remake on xbox live). I was on old Atari st hand from way back when, had an amiga too but not much to play on it....
I went to a huge car boot, saw a guy selling Amiga n ST games, fate, i thought, was pushing me to retro heaven. I drove seventy miles to pick up an A500 wit a ton o games and hardware, but little did i know.....IT WAS A 1200. Yeas, imagin my shock and delight when virtually all the games are for a 500 n dont work....typical. Of course, the disks cud jus be knackered, they are old.
So thas my long intor, Im a complete noob to Amiga, and damned if i know what i doing, I got a A1200 wit no hdd (i workin on that) and no clue
Oh yeah, I am anotha UK Amiga fan, Near Windsor

How do i know if there is an accelorator in it? I have built a cuple of PC's so i not a stranger to opening up a computer but here i dont know what im looking for

Hi, open the panel underneath the A1200. That's where CPU add-ons go.

If you turn the 1200 upside down you'll see the accelerator "hatch" in the body. Sometimes the cover is missing, sometimes in order to add extra ventilation for an accelerator. Anyway, if there's a just a connector and some space there you have no accelerator, but on the other hand.... :-)
The other thing is you might have just a memory card there, but this actually doubles the speed of a lot of operations so is a lot better than nothing.
If there is nothing there and you don't think you'll upgrade the 1200 then find a utility called Relokick 1.3 or 1.4 or whatever. It can work from a floppy and provides very good compatibility with those old 500 games. Probably best though is an 030 accelerator (Blizzards are ideal) with a few megs of fast ram, a hard drive, and installing the wonderful WHDLoad.
Hope that helps.

An A1200 should run most A500 games. Infact, I only know of a handful that won't work at all.
