Title: Need advice for new cooler
Post by: Jose on July 03, 2003, 09:15:32 PM
Hi. I have to tap it for my cooler to start. It's a cooler for an 040.
I don't want an old one, soI 'd like advice on where to get a new one, the more silent and thin possible, but still efficient. ( I know it's contradictory).

You could try looking for an after market graphics card cooler.computer fairs sometimes have 40 mm fans other than that something from an old 486 cpu cooler might work. what country are you in.

Vantec ICEBERQ4 PRO

Very nice cooler looks great performance is top notch. I recommend Artic Silver Thermal adhesive for fantastic results

Not a cheap cooler but real nice and should easily be found on the web

Thanks all for the suggestions.
  :-D
Those chipset coolers are cool but way more thatn what a 040/40 needs (I think), and too big. Watercooling yeah right..  :-D Maybe I could connect my amiga to my fridge instead:-?
It's so easy to get a 486 cooler but when  presented with thousands of new coolers on the net  I started thinking wich one would be better specialy since I like silent computers like the classic Amigas.
I'm gonna give it a try at one of those chipset coolers, maybe from the same brand of the one Kurt refered ...

Well I´ve to suggest a cooler of a peecee GFX card, IMO is the more adecuated solution for you and it´s no more than 3/4 euro here in Spain.

Butta if you wanna a totally quiet computer you can add a Peltier Cell to the 040.

It works at +12u, so you can power it by the PSU, and if you still using a external PSU with the 1200, it doesn´t get much amperage (twice or 3 times a little 12u GFX fan).

You can add this to the Switching transistor coolers on the PSU, if you are using the 1200 in a power with standart PSU of course, this way you could quit the fan on the PSU (a lot less noise).

Personally, I always make a thermostate that makes start the PSU fan when it´s really needed. STarts at full speed and when low temperature is in the coolers of the PSU, it slowdowns the fan rpms to the 50 per cent for 5 minutes.

Then it shutsdown itself and start the process again

The only way to get a quietter HD is to get it in a ultraquiet HD box :|

Have Fun!
