How much should i pay for a amiga a4000 capable of running os 3.9 or a standard a4000? (in ukp)

Dear Friend:
I sold my beloved a4000 for only us$ 350.00
I let it go to buy a new pentium with lightwave 3d which easily outperforms the amiga for 3d animation. I used my amiga for 3d...and it was good at the time...but times change and I had to move on...and for 3d it was better to trade my amiga for a new pentium/lightwave.

All A4000's are capable of running OS3.9
Prices start at about £150 for an A4000/030 with 2+16Mbyte RAM + IDE hard drive.
They go up to £700+ for one with a Cyberstorm PPC, UW SCSI hard drive, graphics card, sound card and network card.

rednova, get the fprime plugin .. it'll render the frame while you are adjusting the scene... and it'll render (enough to get a good idea of the final result) in just 10 seconds or so!
Makes setting up the lights and camera views in a scene very very fast.

Is a A4000 slow running OS 3.9? I only want to do standard stuff then probably get a gfx card whats the usual price for a gfx capable of displaying true 24 or 32 bit colours?

An A4000 with a 68030 CPU will run OS 3.9 nicely, with 16mb ram.
Though 16mb Memory doesn't go too far, once you get a nice background and run a few applications, especially if you're using a video card.
The problem is, with a 68030@25mhz a video card won't be all that fast, especially if you're planning to use True Colour.
As far as I know most Amiga Video cards go up to 24bit and that's it, you can usually pick up a "Cybervision 3D" for a good price, they're not the fastest around but are still a good card in my opinion :-)

A stock A4000 will be a bit sluggish with OS3.9, but not too bad, provided you don't try a 256 color workbench. ;-) I ran mine in 64 color and remember it being reasonably crisp. 32 color, even more so.
An accelerator card that has the RAM local on it speeds up an A4000 quite a bit (it has a nasty RAM bottle-neck). After that, a graphics card really flies. I'd second getting one of the Cybervision 3Ds. They're relatively cheap (compared to the astounding prices of the CV64 and P-IV) and you can get the scan-doubler to have the same slick integration of the higher-priced cards. (If you don't care about slick integration, a Mediator or Prommy and a Voodoo PCI also offers a low-cost solution.)

Going off eBay prices.. a LOT!
A4000 accelerators like the Cyberstorms usually at least hit 200 quid.
Graphics cards can be as low as 80 quid (if you're lucky) but the Picasso IV is the one everyone wants and will prolly at least reach £150.
This hobby certainly ain't gonna please anyone's financial adviser.

Accelerators can be cheap, you can get an A3640 (the worst accelerator ever) for as little as £25 but it will give you a 50-80% speed increase over an A4000/030
Graphics cards can be expensive. Just use a TV to begin with, perhaps consider getting an A4000 scandoubler if you want to use a VGA monitor

Well, worse than that, is trying to justify to yourself why you're paying the same amount for 10+ year old used hardware as it cost when it originally hit the market. :-P
That's why I haven't bought a CS-PPC yet. :lol:

Original A4000D, keyboard and Monitor boxes, ISTR the foam is there but not the pink bags
2 or 3 joysticks, spare mice etc.
SAS C 6.5 with manuals and original media
Various games etc.
All up and running
But I'd be looking for someone to collect cash in hand, - Sorry but I've seen to many horror stories on here to trust people. At least you'd get to see it working.

I have an A4000 that I am willing to sell.
She is bog standard and in original boxes (inc UK Keyboard). I also ave a 1960 monitor, again boxed.
I recently removed the battery and if you search on my posts you will see the links to the pics. Her mobo is perfect.

sorry to hyjack this thread a little. but i am after the amiga 4000 plastic front panel and also the amiga 4000 keyboard. both of mine are yellow!

I have the plastic front + Magnet and LEDs off an A4000D. You're welcome to it so long as you pay for the postage. :)
