Out of interest, what new applications are being developed for AmigaOS 4, and also what are we expecting to be bundled?
Finally, I know this might be a daft question, but - erm - when is AmigaOS 4 going to be released?

I work on a software that probably will be commercial for Amiga OS 4, MorphOs, Windows, Mac Os X
Atleast something.. ;)
It's too early to mention what it's about, but i can atleast say it has to do with structured vector graphics, and controlling hardware devices. :-)
Progress is going well indeed.. ..
-
Well from what i have read it does not look like it will run any of my old ppc software that was writen for blizzard ppc,s and as i have read that morphos can run the software.Are you thinking of getting os4 or an amigaone as at the moment it has not much writen for it.Till the os is complete there is nothing to develop with. :-)
-
The way i'm doing it i make it work with gcc 68k.
Then i hope it shouldn't be too much work to make it a ppc-executable.
Hopefully. :-D

One product actually announced is Candy Factory Pro.
IIRC, Pagestream has been mentioned as going PPC native as well.
Hollywood is another app that is promised for OS4 treatment.
As far as anything else? Well don't expect too much for the initial OS4.0 release. Once the OS is out there in the wild, the programming docs will be released and then the programmers can get their teeth into PPC native apps.

Ok, all together now:

And SuperBase Pro 4 has been announced.... Oh yeah, and the games that Hyperion will be porting from Incagold (link to press release here...) (http://amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=44243) I seem to remember something about Cinema 4D.... and.....
Any others?... Didn't Kermit say there would be some updated products from Nova Design?? (don't quote me on that one...cause I really don't remember and that may have been speculation)
I'm sure there are others that are waiting until closer to release of OS4 to make any announcements.
-
I think ImageFX and other NovaDesign stuff was announced too, but that was in St. Louis 2 years ago. I hope they didn't drop it.
-
Let's not forget Audio Evolution.

Let's not forget Audio Evolution.
Whoops!
Actually, Davey's been real quiet recently. Busy perhaps?
As for Nova design? IIRC, they never specifically targetted OS4 for support. They always quote that they will support the AmigaOS.
Trying to get info from Kermit about future updates of ImageFX is Mission Impossible itself:-D . Nova just don't say anything about anything, until it's ready to ship. But I would expect there to not be any problems running it through the Petunia emulation, since IFX run perfectly well on Amithlon/UAE etc.

;-) Imagine version 6.0 is waiting on AmigaOS 4.0, and has been since before Gateway bought Amiga at auction after Viscorp’s demise. (IIRC.)
I prepaid for version 6.0 when version 5.0 came out, and have been waiting for years, patiently.

Yes, according to the AR newsletter, he's been very busy. ;-)
-
@ Cyberus, hmmm, yes, very constructive.... :-)
My wish list, and I stress, WISH list:
Amos Professional, and compiler
Amigavision??
Cando
Deluxe Paint 6
(They're including Arexx, right? How about a compiler for that.)
Devpac assembler, a PPC version (I don't know assembler, but I believe it received really good magazine reviews.)
Agnus SW emulator that gives you upto 256 megs of chip ram (please, no flames)
Shawdow of the Beast!!!
Oh, and yeah, a 64 bit version of AmigaBasic by ms
:-D :-D :-D (I'm pressing the button on my agent 86 ejection seat, RIGHT NOW!!!)
AmigaOne! Prime mover!!

@Atheist
Although quite a few of the programs you quote there have Modern Equivalents ;-) , you do highlight one area that hasn't really been covered on this thread yet, and that's programming.
Sure, we've been told GCC will be the compiler of choice for writing applications for OS4, and Arexx is being included, but AMOS and the like certainly helped people ease into programming, without going from bare-minimum amateur straight onto C-based full-on application programming.
@All
Apart from GCC and Arexx, what else do people feel is needed / could be useful on the programming front?

I would like the StormC 4 package to be ppc-native.
It is actually very good. I use it all day long and compiling a project with around 64 files, different folders and customised paths, it's much easier with a IDE than a plain console GCC..
Unfortunately i think haage & partner is getting more and more uninterested of the amiga business. (hopefully not)
The few things i would like added to it, is a class-handler, and the VisualStudio class helper.
That would be a great addition, also supporting a right-click and get a popup-menu where you could trace the location of a class / structure / variable..
Oh well, i'm just dreaming... :-)
Got carried away..
btw, where is ren? :-D

this is not entirely true. ARexx has been replaced by a more powerful script compiler by the name of SHEEP (http://os.amiga.com)
-
@Staticman
SHEEP could be interesting if it's intended as an Arexx scripting language-type replacement, although I had a hazy idea it was planned for later on eg. 4.1 or 4.2.
@ Olle
I know what you mean. Although I haven't done much with StormC (I think it's v3 I have, the one included with the OS3.5 DevCD, anyway), but I do like the fact that it's still one of the most up-to-date (relatively speaking, that is...) C Packages specifically for the Amiga, particularly with an IDE and stuff.
If H+P really do fade away, then something uptodate with an IDE for the Ami will be particularly good (no comments regarding commercial viability though...)
As for Ren, well, I'm the only one likely to be online, as he got so frustrated with Windows, he chucked his PC out the glass variety ;-) :-D

Yeah. I really like Storms IDE but the codegenerator leaves much to be desired to be honest.
If youre into gcc, GoldEd is very nice as a front end...
-
I'd like to see Dpaint with .anim to flash output. How about a newer version of Lightwave?
-
Well as far as Pagestream goes it has been mentioned but I think that it would run under emulation as well as any DTP would run native. I use PageStream with Amithlon now on a 1.1ghz Athalon System and it fly's. I acan only guese at what it would run like on a G4 system. But basicly Deron has said there would be little to gain running native so it is not a priority. Linux/Mac/Windows/Amiga3.9 versions come first but a port will be done (depending on ease of use of the code conversion/compilers to use and understand). :-)

If GCC is to be The One then, perhaps all that's needed is to let people know that GoldEd makes a good front end. If it isn't already in there, include summat in the GoldEd installer to ask "Do you wish to configure GoldEd as a front end for GCC?". I dunno. I've never used GE :-)

@Stimpy
GoldED-AIX even comes with GGC (and vbcc) on the CD.
Install it, answer the questions, and of you go.
GoldED is even used in the official MorphOS-SDK (und the name MorphED).
-
@stimpy , @karlos, @kronos
The top priority question for me then is this.
When using GoldEd, does it provide a way to keep all files in a window to quickly open and to be added into the project easily? , this is the most important reason why i use StormC atm..
Wasn't there a development of a generic IDE sometime? (my mind is slipping)
-
@Olle
Depends on what you mean.
GoldED has a menuitem to create makefiles, but I never tried that.
When in C(++) mode, GED will list all *.c and *.cpp files in the same dir with the
one you are working on on the right side of the window.
This can be switched to *.h files and makefiles by small buttons.
Clicking on an item in those list will open the file in a new window.
AFAIK there is no easy way to add an file to a makefile, but GED offers lots of
nice helpers like automatik construction of "if()" and so on.
-
@kronos
Thanks for the info... :-)
I'll just have to try it out.. . .
