Title: Mediator in an A1200 with an 030/50mHz
Post by: Starrunner on September 04, 2007, 08:19:57 PM
So I am thinking of picking up a Mediator board for my A1200 with an 030 accelerator at 50mHz and wanted to know what the benefits would be.  I know it will take some fairly standard PCI cards, such as audio and video and even ethernet.  I know my question is vague, but I am trying to see if it will make a significant difference since it is going to be over $255.

Thanks in advance.

I would love to be able to play my old mods and meds, as well as some MP3s.  I would love to be able to surf the net on the thing as well, although that may be asking a lot.  I've got tons of software that is still servicable, but I would like to get it moving and doing more than just play games.  I am running OS 3.9 by the way.

I've heard that the Mediator is a pain to get to work with an 030, and you have to disable CPU caches to get it to work, which slows things up, not that RTG is very fast on an 030 at any rate.

I think you're better off sticking with AGA if you have an 030  CPU, Best not to expect too much from the classic amiga, it's getting old now in hardware and software :)
