If a man is of a very advanced age, with white hair and beard, it would hardly be appropriate for him to use black dye.
The best thing with which to dye gray hair is henna and katm. (Mentioned in Fath al-Bari.) Henna makes the hair red, while katm, a plant from Yemen, colors it black tinged with red. Said Anas, "Abu Bakr dyed his hair with henna and katm, and 'Umar dyed it with henna only." "

Precisely the point I made in the other thread. You'd expect someone of such self-claimed religious authority to observe such minuitae fastidiously, especially given that he's had that gray beard for a long time.
I'll be honest, even taking into account the blurred, grainy image quality, I don't think the recent image bears more than a superficial resemblence, except perhaps for the nose.
However, the new image is the spitting image of a local shopkeeper.

Changed to the "Garibaldi style" beard for the competition.
The area at the corners of his mouth where the mustache meets the beard is oddly different now than his 2004 photo.

Even if the aforementioned beard colouring tactic were genuine I assume it only has a chance of working when you've not seen the "before" image already :lol:
