Title: Any true 'Technoids' out there?
Post by: Cyberus on July 01, 2003, 11:51:44 PM
I was browsing through the wonderful www.amiga-hardware.com and stumbled across this (http://www.amiga-hardware.com/amplifier.html). Now bearing in mind I'm reasonably technically minded and have done bits and pieces of electronics in passing (while studying Audio Technology and then Physics at Uni), but am hardly an electronic engineer, can anyone give me the lowdown on this.

i.e. how is the parallel port utilised for such a thing, how do you go about 'driving' and LCD screen such as this, using an off-the-shelf IC? If I were to 'find' a similar LCD, how much of a mammoth project would it be to get a similar (or perhaps completely different) use out of it? Is it just a case of getting the info sheet from the manufacturer and a weekends ingenuity, or is this a case of real hardcore 'hacking'?

Thanks in advance guys

Something like what you have mentioned  has been done using a serial port lcd adaptor and amipc 2.8 software if you browse through the hardware and software sections of this site it gives some details here amiga based car mp3 player with lcd screen for tracklisting  (http://amimpc.world3.net/)

Most of these LCD displays come as complete packages with all the needed chips onboard. Basically, it just a matter of soldering a parallel cable to it.
