I installed AHI version 4.18, I believe, as it was the one with an installer, and I wanted to see where everything went, before I hand installed the
version 6.0
After the install, I tried to run AmigaAMP, but it said it was unable to load the AHI.device. and directed me to run the AHI setup in prefs. It said not to choosed the "Music Device" so I shose device 0 and one of the Delfina Stereo settings from the list and saved, but AmigaAmp still says it cannot load the AHI.device.
I've tried rebooting, and choosing other options from the list, with no joy.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

When setting the AHI prefs, make sure to use a HiFi stereo++ mode. Increase the frequency to 48000 and the channels to at least 8. In AHI v4, increasing channels will decrease the overall volume - version 6 corrects this.
What are your versions of delfina.library and delfina.audio?
To upgrade to AHI 6, basically just replace the v4 files with the ones from the v6 distribution. I don't think there are any new ones.
EDIT: Also, which Delfina board is it?
-
I think that 44100Khz may be a better idea so the card doesn't have to resample when a mp3 is played (MP3 use 44Khz, not 48).
-
@ Crumb
Most Delfina AHI modes don't support 44.1KHz. Only 16, 27.4, 32, and 48.
-
Sorry, the card is the Delfina Lite, it's down there in my signature.
Also, what drivers should be DEVS:AHI folder?
I Have:
Delfina.audio
Paula.audio
Device.audio
Filesave.audio
I know the delfina and Paula should be there, but what about
the other two?
As far as the Delfina Audio and Library files, they would be the versions that came with the archive, which is 4.18
Thanks

MP3s can be 32kHz,44.1kHz or 48kHz.
44.1Khz is most common as it matches the sampling frequency used on audio CDs.

Anyone else have any idea why Amp cant load Ahi.device?
I'm getting discouraged here.
Thanks

run SnoopDos to check what is failing
and check if the installer have copied AddAudioModes in Sys:C/

I recall AmigaAMP being very sensitive to AHI devices already being in use. Is it possible that you've simply got something else blocking the channels?
Or a better idea, is the Delfina being initialized in user-startup? Also look for DelfInit on Aminet as a substitute for the original DelfMem. I've found it to be a little less buggy.
The contents of your Devs:AHI directory are correct. device.audio is designed to be used on AHI's Music Unit to instead point it to use the settings for Unit 0 - it can help with programs that don't specify or allow control over which AHI unit or audiomode to use. Filesave.audio I believe is to write an audio stream to disk. Do you also have DELFINA, PAULA, DEVICE, and FILESAVE in Devs:AudioModes?
Where did you get your install archive? The only stable delfina.library I've found for the Delfina Lite has been 4.16 beta 3 with patch #2. The latest delfina.audio I've found is 4.09. If you can point me to your files I can try them on my system to see if they might be the problem.

OK, some success to report
I finally got AHI And AmigaAMP to play through the Delfina
card. However every time an MP3 starts to play, the Delfina
Watchdog comes up and says deflina crashed, even though
the music is still playing perfectly.
It started working after I updated from the old version
of AHI that came with OS 3.9 to version 6.0
This may be because I an using the old version of the delfina.library that came with the archive I got from
Here:
http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/delfinalite
There is also an delfina.library 4.16 B48 there, but if I
try to use it, every thing just locks up.
Also I tried to use the installer for the Delfina software
from the site above, but the installer would not work.
so I copied the delfina.library to LIBS manually, and put a
entry for Delfinit in user-startup, I don't know if there
need to be any arguments for delfinit, all I did was add a
run nill delfinit to the user startup
Anyone want to email me the latest delfina.library that
works with the Delfina Lite
Thanks

@ wildstar1063
The "Delfina Crashed" window is a known bug with that version of the library. The one from Individual Computers was meant for the newer Delfina Flipper and the results you describe are typical when using it with a Delfina Lite.
Send me a PM with your email address and I'll get you 4.16b3p#2 - it works great for MP3 decoding and AHI playback, but the it breaks tools like DelfLoad and the level monitors in DelFX.
-
@Wildstar1063
You should try the MHI (http://aminet.net/mus/play/mhimdev.lha) driver available from Aminet. I works quite nicely with my Delfina Flipper and AmigaAMP. There are instructions in the package to configure it for AmigaAMP.
-
Ah, here it is (http://jpv.wmhost.com/). It's delflib_patch_2.lzx
-
Matt,
Thanks for the link, Now I don't get the error
anymore.

Ok,
I have the delfina.library 4.16b3p#2 installed, and am
using Delfinit to initialize the card, and when it
correctly initializes, the card plays great with
AMPlifier. I still have not installed MHI to use with
AmigaAMP yet.
In any case, the problem now is that that Delfinit does
not always Init. the card correctly, and does something
so that after it runs, no other program can be loaded,
and I have to re-boot the computer. I have commented
Delfinit out of the user-startup for now, because it only
correctly inits. the card about 1 in 6 times I boot, the
other 6 time the OS boots, but I cannot load any programs.
and I just have to keep rebooting.
Currently I am using AHI 6.0 and an OS 3.9 install from the
Second Edition (Pink) OS 3.9 disk. No BoingBags installed
and Delfinit 2.1, and it is the first entry in user-startup.
Would any of the command line switches in Delfinit help this
situation?
Thanks

I have the Delfina Lite running with this:
- OS3.9 BB2
- delfina.library (4.16b3 patch 2)
- AHI 4.18
- DelfInit 2.1 in user-startup ("DelfInit QUIET")
In WBStartUp I have DelfTweak script that overclocks it to 60MHz.
That works fine. Only differences seem to be BB2 and AHI version. Maybe you could try AHI 4.18?
-
I also have DelfInit QUIET in user-startup (not the first). If you also have QUIET option, try to remove it and see if it prints out some errors or other info when failing?
Does delfinit work if you run it after OS has loaded?
I also have AHI 4.180 too.. but I think my Delfina worked fine with newer AHIs too when I still had them...
Btw. Delfmpeg is nice tool to test HW playback... but setting up delfinampeg.device for Amplifier or MHI for AmigaAmp are pretty easy too..
-
I do have delfinampeg.device, setup in AMPlifier,
and when I was using 4.18 AHI, I didn't get any
sound at all, it was when I upgraded to 6.0 that
the sound started working.
After the computer boots, without Delfinit in user
startup, If I type it in manually, sometimes it
works, and sometimes it does not return with the
little status window you get when you dont use
QUIET mode. When It does not return with the
status window, is when no other program will
load, and I have to restart the computer.
Maybe I need BB2 and to use the QUIET switch. I was
also just reading in the Delfinit docs someting about
using the NOPATCH switch if you have delfina.library
version 4.14 or later. since this is 4.16, maybe
is should use that switch option
Wildstar1063
-
I use the NOPATCH and QUIET arguments and it works well. I'm using AHI 6 and delfina.audio 4.09
-
@Matt_H
Where did you get the latest delfina.audio file?
-
So where do I get delfina.audio 4.09? The version
command shows the one that came with the 6.0 archive
to be 4.07
I did see on the AHI site a beta ahi.device v6.7, has
anyone used that?

@wildstar1063
My Delfina Flipper works very well with the following configuration:
delfina.audio: ver 4.6 -> note: this is the only file in my devs:ahi folder. Don't need paula audio with a delfina board
ahi.device: ver 4.18 (could be you have a mixture of ver 4.x and 6.x files?)
delfinampeg.device: ver 1.6
delfina.library: ver 4.16 B43
In my userstartup I have the command: Delfmem >nil:
(I did use DelfInit but removed it -> can't remember why now)
As stated before I use MHI with AmigaAMP. With MHI, AmigaAMP plays mp3s with virtually no cpu load (because it uses delfina dsp through delfinampeg.device). I don't use Amplifier.
This setup works very well with my system. You may want to give this a try with the Lite board.
My system:
A2500 w/ Blizzard 2060,PIV,WB3.9, 96MB Ram, X-Surf, Delfina Flipper,Subway,GVP IO etc
Hope this helps.

MY Versions are:
delfina.audio = 4.07
delfina.library 4.16 Patch 2 (4.16 B43 locks up my system)
delfinampeg.device = 1.6
AHI.device is 6.6
I do intend to install AMigaAMP, with MHI, I just started
with AMPlifier because it is easier to set up, you can
enter delfinampeg.device right in to the mp3 hardware
info without going through the MHI wrapper, and for setup
I wanted as few layers as possible.
I don't think the AHI stuff, or the delfinaMpeg.device,
would be the issue with my current lockup issue at
initialization of the card. I woud think it would be
something with delfinit, or delfina.library, or the
hardware, as basicly all delfinit does is make a call
through delfina.device to the card, to wake it up.
The following from the FAQ in the Delfinit.guide might
be relevent though, I just found it:
--------------------------------------------------------
Q: Delfina still causes Amiga to freeze despite of DelfInit. What can I do?
A: You have a hardware problem and DelfInit can not help
you on that. But there is something you can do.
Delfina Lite and Delfina Plus:
These Delfina models might suffer from timing problems
(especially if you have a A1200 ZORRO card). Try inserting
the Delfina card in a different ZORRO slot.
Before inserting Delfina in a ZORRO slot, check that the
card and the slot are clean and there is no oxidizing.
Clean them if necessary. Press the card firmly into the
slot but not too hard, so that you do not damage the
motherboard or the ZORRO card.
Claim for a replacement Delfina from Petsoff. According to
Finnish laws they are obliged to supply a working
replacement or give you your money back.
Update your Amiga 1200's motherboard.
------------------------------------------------------
I dont have a 1200, but it seem to be saying this could be
with other machines too.
Maybe I need to try other slots.

@ Flashlab & others
delfina.audio 4.09 (15-Sept-99) is in an archive called Delf_User_4.15.lha which I managed to pull from http://www.petsoff.com via the Wayback Machine (http://web.archive.org).
EDIT: Direct link (http://web.archive.org/web/20010520113801/http://www.petsoff.com/files/Delf_User_4.15.lha).

@ wildstar1063
Try different slots. If you're using ahi.device 6.6, make sure you're using the rest of the AHI 6 files as well and not mixing and matching between v4 and v6 distributions.
If DelfInit continues to fail, try going back to Delfmem from the original Delfina installation.
