After Joel/Xenepp has started taking orders for Minimig PCB's and assembled units, it struck me... what sort of cases will people use? Off the shelf or home made? Anyone already got ideas?
I'm going to make mine - but not sure what design yet.

46 views and no replies! Either no one is bothered about their case design or you have read this thread and thought "i'd better trott off and think about it!!!"

They were probably scared away by your excessive punctuation.

I don't know what you mean????!!?!?!

When the phrase, "Now Shipping" appears in the news article, others will be more likely to start making plans.
I'm too busy enjoying what I already have to be bothered with what might be. Any time those two words are nowhere to be found in the news article, my attention is likewise nowhere to be found.

Was that really necessary?

@Fixer
Was that really necessary?
Yes.
PS. As tonyyeb already understood, it was meant as a joke.

Chill guys. Just get out those crayons and start designing. :-D

If and when I get one/build one 2 pieces of plexiglass, 4 screws, 4 nuts and 4 stand-offs will suffice =).

Why go to those lengths when a cigar box will do.

@tonyyeb
How about nice little square flat box with a stylish logo, I think it should comfortably fit in 12cm x 12cm x 2.5cm.

Though I would never harm my SX-64, I was really imagining what it would be like to replace the guts with my minimig. Other than that, I haven't decided any thing about cases yet. I imagine it will take me serveral weeks to receive and assemble all the parts, so I'll have plenty of time to think about it. Maybe I could gut and old fat laptop......\

I wrote a reply......... where did it go???????? (excessive punctuation just for Piru  )
With a Minimig size of 12cm square I have two case designs I am thinking of:
1. My favorite Joystick (Wico Red & Black Bat style) has a base that is molded in two parts, an upper half and lower half and it is almost 12cm square too. I would like to remove the lower half and replace it with a bit larger one that will still mate to the upper half and have enough room for the Minimig and perhaps 4 to 8 AA batteries that could be used to power the Minimig through a three way switch only when games that do not require a second joystick, or keyboard are being played. The originally designed power input jack would still be used for more power hungry Minimig use when a mouse and keyboard are attached, or a two player game is playing and a second joystick is plugged into the Minimig. Clean, compact and portable. Add a 4 inch LCD display to this design and you have an Amiga A500 to play anywhere you go, like waiting in the lobby of the doctor's office, standing in line at a concert, etc.
2. If/When the Minimig gets further revisions that allow it to access a hard drive, or a hack that will allow it to access an original Amiga floppy drive, it would be great to fit it into an old Amiga 1010 floppy drive enclosure and have it resemble (slightly) a Mac-Mini.

I'm just going to screw mine onto a piece of wood.

Dude there's liking the amiga, but that's going a bit far for a computer, don't you think?

Hi,
I saw this case (originally a 5.25" external USB enclosure) on a thread a few weeks ago. The owner converted it to fit an EFIKA, but I reckon it would be great for a minimig too...

Looks so cool...

This what I would do too, as it would allow it to be seen in all its mini glory!

I'm gunna build my own... Got a vacuum former, laser cutter/engraver, plastic shapingtools, etc. at work, so I'm pretty sure I can come up with something....

:roflmao:

What about a very simple case, something liek one of the early Famicom/SNES cases. The simpler to make, the less it will cost.

I was thinking up putting it inside an old 1st generation iMac. You can fetch those things for 25 euros these days, and they look way cool IMHO. You also already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse that way! And a CD-ROM drive, but that wont function (yet?).

That's not too bad for a Minimig, is it?
-
ewwwww!!! a mac case. thats an insult.
actually they were pretty cool looking, but constructed a bit cheaply if i remember correctly
im working on building my c64 dtv into a ps2 keyboard case, that would work for a minimig for me.

Im starting to look at dead A500's. Strip the insides, remap the ports - find out if there is a way to adapt the keyboard and shazam.

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm planning to get an A600 case and use the Keyrah (http://www.vesalia.de/?V02b0f1454534211785c5757520b514e01101f0954414752050140090a1e31115579633a223c6373744e03263f2a2a76610539626f6320687c2e347d40190a63754c5a1f74420965545f5b01614a4e5d53432e72103767780a235e7b1457534177676f766d266274742430416d687b355470746b3668777e367e630043753) with an USB->PS2 adapter.
Could be super awesome.

If I can get the docs on my now-dead laptops LCD, keyboard and mouse connector..... Porta-Mig anyone?
