Title: WTB Toaster 4000 4.1 install disk
Post by: amesie2 on August 23, 2007, 06:24:32 AM
I have a toaster 4000 4.1 CD but do not have the install disk(s) to go with it. Does anyone have the install disk(s) for sale or know where I can get one?

Thank you

Why not just go to the Newtek site and get the software from there?

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, but we still keep most of the install disks and updates on our public FTP.

http://ftp://ftp.newtek.com/pub/Patches/Flyer/

If you dig around in /pub there are several folders of Amiga stuff.

I want to ask for some help too, I have a A2000 with GVP68040 with SCSI to IDE controller and 4 GB CF card. I have 2.0, 3.1 and 4. not sure install disk sets. The 2.0 1st disk does nothing, the 4.? installs untill the 9th disk and then it fails. I tried to look at the disk but it is NDOS or something like that. Same with the 2.0 is there some way restore the 9th disk. As a side note, I think the HD fills up as it will not format larger then 3909MB. This should be enought to install, but I'm not sure if it is realy that size. I used the GVP install disk to set the CF card up. It asked how may partictions to set up but never does it. Any way to set the CF card up to make it 4GB and maybe the install will complete.

It sounds like bad floppies to me.  They get old and start to lose data after a while.

You've got way more drive space than you need.  Back then a 500MB drive was huge.

If anything, you will want to partition the drive smaller to avoid problems.  Those old OS's weren't anticipating multiple GB's of storage space.

Also be aware that somewhere around disk 30 of the Toaster 3.x install there is a high density floppy disk.  If you don't have a high density Amiga floppy drive, then it's not going to be able to read it and you won't be able to continue.

I only remember 4.x on CD, but assuming there was a version on floppies it may also switch to high density at some point during the box of floppies.

I'd try to track down a CD version and the couple of floppies needed to install it if you can read CD's in the machine.

Thanks for the reply, I am new to this cross amiga download files thing. I have all the files from Newtek, I could burn to a cd but my Cd drive will not read it. I have tried to use a nullmodem with out results. I want to post some of my project photo here soon, as I am building 3 differant A2000 toaster flyer systems just to use the chroma effects. I have one system running and use the Croma key. I was a Amiga guy years ago and started to build them as a hobby. I am very interested in ADF files conversion, but have had no luck using them. I have a slot for CF cards on my PC and have put files on it but the Amiga will not read it. I know I jump around alot but I am tring to work several issues and only get to play with them in the middle of the night when I get time.

I hope the disk are still good, they were still sealed in the plastic.

If you are using a CD drive in your classic Amiga, are you sure that the CD is burnt using ISO 9660 (CDFS)?  The Toaster install CD I have is ISO 9660.

Heiroglyph, I just reread the post and I would love to get some install CD's.

I read on another post that you worked on the croma key devices?

I have one and it works all but the slide fade does not work, what does this slider do? You said that they get dirty.

also when I bring in using toaster paint some of the stock art work it only fills half of the screen. The croma is on one side and the art work the left. Any ideas?

Officially you'll have to buy the 4.3 CD, I think some places still carry them.

You can also find them used.  Get at least 4.2 if you have to pay for it.

Get some electronic contact cleaner and spray in the slider.  It's just like old amplifier knobs, they get corroded.  Hose the slider down with that and slide it back and forth for a while, chances are it will start working once it dries out.

Edit: Oh, the slider has to do with the amount of blue that is removed (use blue, the red option sucks)  The slider adjusts how close to blue actually keys out, from none all the way to things that are barely blueish.

The MS Chromakey doesn't key green.

The max transfer on your hard drive is set wrong.  Find the Toaster Flyer FAQ in the FTP site I listed and the exact answer is in there somewhere.

where do you even look for a place that sells anything Amiga, when I returned to the states after living in Europe for several years there was nothing on the shelves for the Amiga. If you know where they sell install disk I will buy it. I don't pirate software, but I own the software, so I feel a copy would be fair too.

Thanks for the info on the Croma Key, I do have a green screen and it did nothing, I will have to find a blue blanket someplace.

@Heiroglyph
one of the things I feel for is about people who buy hardware only (ie toaster)
When I brought brand new, all the software, accessories etc were included.

Why do folks sell only the hardware, shouldn't they include the software too?
Now, paid for upgrades, I kind of understand to be sold stand alone.

Hi Guys,

Toaster is free now and Open Source here is a link to the site: http://www.discreetfx.com/openvideotoaster.html . When I download the source to digipaint from here it included the executables ready to be run so you don't even need to build it! Just run it and enjoy.

Ben.

One of the things here is a hard drive failure, so I am trying to rebuildt it, it is a toaster made by Commodore/Newtek, sold complete. I have the disk set. But it fails the install. I called that number for Commodore but was put on hold for several years. The other toaster is a ebay project.
