Title: Fast ATA prob or motherboard?
Post by: Gav on August 22, 2007, 01:13:39 AM
Hi
To cut this story short my hard drive won't boot while plugged in to my fast ata..I get a message very fast upon switching the machine on which is something along the lines of "Device HD1 is not a dos disk" or something.
I also am unable to get to the fast ata prefs menu from holding LMB..

So after this i tried using a 2.5-3.5 HD adaptor and with that being used the amiga just goes to the disc animation screen SUPER fast..
If i remove the hard drive and boot the amiga it once again boots to the disc anim waaaaay to fast..

So as of yet i have not removed the fast ata mainly because i hate removing fragile roms but i will do so tomorrow as a last resort..

But anyways what do some of you think??Motherboard or Fast ATA??..Well whichever it is it has been a very annoying problem for sometime just after i got my BPPC card..

So the past few months i have had no use out of my amiga which is a shame really..

Did you load the fastata driver before trying to set up the drive? You did not mention the size drive you are using. Without the driver fastata will work like stock controller, as in no support for big drives.

The drive and fast ata i have had for a few years now so the drive has OS3.9 aswell as ata prefs installed.
It had locked up one time and when it rebooted i was greeted to the dos message i wrote above...

The drive is a 30 gig and was all working with fine with the Fast ata until the lock up..Before that i was also having boot problems with my cd drive, the amiga wouldn't boot unless i removed the cd drive..

Perhaps that was the start of a dying fast ata?

did you try to pull it out and reseat the board, maybe a bad connection. I have three fastata cards and never had a problem. One I run all the time for about three years.

have you checked your s startup-sequence to see if it has put the
          C:CheckLMB
          IF WARN
          SYS:Prefs/ATA3Prefs
          ENDIF
          C:ATA3.driver QUIET

i have found that on the later updates it does not put this in your startup-sequence ?
i have to manualy put it in.

i tried to install a 20gig hd with my fast ata111 & BPPC 060 as soon as i setup the partions and re booted everthing disapeared? whent back to under 4gig with no problems.
