Title: Zorro cards on Amiga 4000 problem.
Post by: Dragster on June 30, 2003, 04:42:49 PM
Hello amigos,

I have a friend who has an A4000 with Video Toaster and some Zorro Cards but he's having problems getting the machine to recognize the Zorro cards. The Toaster is connected to the video slot and it works fine (he said) but the Zorro cards (connected to the ZORRO-PCI busboard he has) are not recognized, not even in the early startup menu. He replaced the PSU with a new one and got the same results. The machine seems to work fine (without any Zorro cards installed), it boots. The machine's motherboard is suposed to be "new".

Any ideas??

Thanks!!

Daniel

Hi,
Remove the Zorro/PCI dauterboard and fit the standard A4000 Zorro only
one, It sounds like the Zorro/Pci board maybe faulty.

Hi Wol, thanks for the reply.

Well, my friend says this problem is also present when he uses his other busboard (the standard 4000 one). The machine works fine, boots with or without the Zorro cards connected (using both busboards he has), but it doesn't recognize any card. Could it be something bad in the motherboard? Any jumper configuration? Some old chip revision? Maybe old buster?...

Thanks!

Check to make sure the motherboard isn't shorting out on anything..  maybe even testing it while not in the case.

Buster seems like something to check. What cards aren't being recognized?

Yep, I've thought of buster chip as well. Cards not recognized include a Spectrum gfx card and a Highway USB, thse cards are proven to work on another machine...

thx

That sounds bad...
1. Probably Buster-Chip dead
2. The two IC's on the orig. Daughter-Board
3. Some of the small SMD IC's on the Mobo fried (a repair will be very expensive)
4. A4000 Motherboard are really hard to find...

Get a new Board is my advice...and check the cards
first in a non A4000  :-)
Good luck !

Try using only 1 card for testing purposes. Check it in each slot individually. Do any other cards work?

You could send the board to us if you run out of ideas.

Hello everybody. Thanks for all your interest and answers. I'll tell my friend to do all the proposed tests here on his A4000 and I'll report results as soon as I have any news...

Anyone has an idea of how much a daughter board cost? Just in case...

Thanks!

Daniel
