Title: Mount ADF images as virtual floppys?
Post by: sbeehre on August 21, 2007, 10:19:27 PM
Does anyone know if there is a program for amigaos that would let you mount adf images as a floppy drive? it would be extremely helpful when making WHDload installs because you wouldnt have to write the adf's to disk first.

If you are installing to HDD with WHDLoad, surely you already have the floppies?

@motorollin: Maybe his originals have bad blocks?  :-)

I don't think WHDLoad supports cracked versions of the games anyway, just original floppies or sps images.

There was just a thread on this about 2 weeks ago, and I posted the link to the Aminet program in it. I think if you search AmiNet for "ADF" its pretty easy to spot.

i did a search before i posted but didn't find anything... maybe it was my search text. I do have some original games but since original games are a very rare find here in NZ then cracked games are the only option. I have had some success with cracked games, so some of them definitely do work.

IIRC, i used FMSdisk. There's also virtualfloppy, according to aminet. And last but not least, xadmaster has a client that allows to "browse" ffs-formatted adf.

Here's the post I referred to.

Some cracked games do load with WHDLoad, depends how the originals was protected. In theory you could write your own WHDLoad installers for the cracked versions, but I kinda suspect the official WHDLoad website would be reluctant to host an installer that works on ONLY a cracked version.

FMS disk does not let you mount and unmount, or use multiple floppies easily.

Try this one... this is what I used, but I had problems using dms with it... adf worked fine:

Just a note it mounts DI0-DI4, DI0:, and DI1: are DSHD not DSDD virtual floppies... use DI2: and DI3: (if I remember correctly).

Yeah, thats the one I gave in the thread I linked to as well. As an added bonus, the WHDLoad announcement currently up on amiga.org news says the new version now supports installs from diskimage.device which is pretty sweet.
