Title: Arrrggghhh I need SIMMS
Post by: Jose on June 30, 2003, 12:12:23 AM
The net is becoming more and more useless to search stuff. I'd ilke advice on where to get single sided SIMMs for my Blizzard 1240, on Europe. The bigger the better. But they must fit on a destop A1200. :-o  128mb would be a killer, but since it's probably too expensie I guess I'll have to stick with 64 ones.

A pricey 32Meg slim simm at PowerC.

32Meg Slim simm here (http://www.powerc.com/cgi-bin/psearch.cgi?code=355-0005&rn=494&aid=&uid=ssuG4Psv3uoEndk&sid=&cid=4&act=gpage)

They're perfect for Blizzard 040/060's in desktop cases.

Hi. Yeah, but it's damn expensive. I know I'm asking too much, but isn't there some place that sells old stuff very cheap that has those? That's what I'd like to find.
But hey thanks for the suggestion ;-)

They're expensive in all stores here in Sweden, too. They're not sold in big enough quantities, I guess. It's a seller's market in this particular case of computer paraphenalia.

Amiga Deals (http://www.amigadeals.fsnet.co.uk/adaddon.htm) - 32Meg single simms £16 (after the accels and ROMs)

That's the only other place I can see just now.  I can't see any 64MB simms at all.

Well, I even found 128mb ones, but I don't know if they're compatible with a Blizzard. And they're probably double sided.

It was cheaper for me to buy  old second-hand PCs to get SIMMs for my Cyberstorm than it was to buy just SIMMs.   128MBs of SIMMs would have cost me $120US.  I bought two used 486s and got that much for $25US.  YMMV.  Remember to look inside before buying.

I just use the arstechnica.com 'shopping engine', look in {computers} for {simm}, click {go}
but I dont live in Europe, so YMMV

Well,  I found cheap 64mb ones, but it took a huge search, and I still don't know if it's compatible.
Also the message the site has about EDO ram is strange

On the apollo board I used to have I just modded the socket so I could fit double sided simms in.

modded = fudged  :-D

@Jose

EDO Simms are mega cheap these days apart from Amiga shops which just screw the users over,

Most will work in a Blizzard/Apollo board (the ones that dont seem to work by appearance are the ones that have very thin chips on them) and if you buy from a professional company they will accept returns if the simm does not work.

64mb SS Simm £15 (local comp fair)
32mb SS Simm £59.95 (Eyetech)

44 quid  and 32mb difference because it is called "Amiga Memory Simm"  :roflmao:

MicroDirect (http://www.microdirect.co.uk/text/catalog/mainprodlist.asp?txtProdGroup=Y&txtDesc=MEMEDO)

64Mb £14.10 - don't know why their website is showing up as text though - eeeewwww.

Wow, microdirect rules. Will that fit on a desktop A1200 with a Blizzard 1240?
Anyway, I want more :-o  I want to take this thing to the maximum. I  read somewhere there was people having 128mb on it. Dammit, I'm gonna find it even if I pass here the whole night  :-x  :-D

Microdirect ONLY sells double sides simms and the ones they send out are the thin ones which only reads out in a Amiga board half of what the mb states.

If you order from them just ask for a CHUNKY simm and it will work in a Amiga accel board but they are double sided.

Does anyone knows if 4k refresh mem modules are fully recognized in Amiga accelerators?
What you're going to bed? NONE get out of here till I find my SIMMS :-x

Don't get EDO
you want FPM SIMMS
Some EDO support FPM but you won't know which.Also 2K or 4k refresh should be okay 8k will on give you half the value 64meg reads 32meg

I have 192 Megs installed in my PPC A1200
front one is a single sided 64meg job and the backside is a 128meg 1.5 high double sided monster. You can put double sided in the rear one on a blizzard card

My local Amiga dealer Has 64 meg single sided tsop's Simms that will work in fact he had a stack at the last club meeting but he is State side :(

Check him out hereif you get desperate  or send him an Email www.mrhardwarecomputers.com

@Kurt
Well that makes it even harder to find. I thougt EDO simms would work but there wouldn't be any advantage in speed. Think I saw that on the unofiicial A1260 page. The Blizzard manual is completely worthless. It mentions that it will use 32bit simms... (yeah thanks...)

Well my simms I got from them (as well as many people from the mediator group) ARE single sided and don't have any memory paging problems.
When I got my 64MB chip, I enquired about the 128MB and I was told they were from the same source and would be OK.

I've got a double-height single sided 64MB SIMM in my Blizzard 1240/40/FPU and it fits exactly (between slot and CPU heatsink).  The one I tried before wasn't liked by my A1200, I think it's a bit hit and miss once you get beyond say 32MB.

I bought a 128 mb edo sim from a computer fair it cost me £45 though, it is double sided but the chips are very thin and it fitted and works ok in my blizzard ppc  .the previous 32mb sim i had, fitted with a bit of carefull force . :-)

We have 8 pieces instock
64mb 72 pin 60ns 4k refresh rate!
Guaranteed to work in Blizzards.
Most ram is only 2k refresh rate 4k is much faster.
We have sold this to many customers and it works great.
Special price while they last $60 each plus shipping.
These 8 were the last 8 from a chip manufactorer.

I'd give a try with Mr. Hardware computers by I'm from Europe, so fees (30%) will apply.
I found VERY cheap Simms in eBay. If one  has enouph patience to make all the questions for the info that's not there (like refresh rate, height of the module, sinlge vs double sided), I think it might be worth it.

Jose,

Oempcworld.com...they have a 64mb FPM SIMM, 4k
non - parity...all for the lovely price of
$15.00 USD (part number 64M).

They work beautiful, and the SIMM fits my
1260 perfect, even with a fan on (you may
have to raise the 1200 up a little though
for everything to clear). The general quality
seems to actually be very good, and it passed
all of the memory tests I threw at it.

It's in the US, but even with shipping/etc
at $15 it should still be cheaper than
most other places.

They're so cheap, I may even pick up a spare...;)
