Title: Retrogeek Video (Doomy)
Post by: TjLaZer on August 15, 2007, 04:37:18 AM
Doomy wanted me to pass on that he made a cool video about how he got into Commodore/Amiga/Atari's.  Check it out...

If he's such an "expert" at computers, how come he manages to make a 3 minute video with poor resolution nearly 300MB in size???

Oh wow, that was funny.

Scary thing is I think I went in to the Hacker Shack place in Portland in the mid 1980s with my cousin. I could've had the honor of actually meeting this Amiga expert in person! If only I'd known... oh well.

I also find it somewhat disturbing that he keeps talking on his website about "We at Retrogeek Computers"..

Who is/are these other(s)? Or does he refer to himself in Royal Plural Form, like those megalomanic kings and emperors in the past always seem to do? ("We, Louis XIV from France.......")

If you want to see some more funnies, go to his forums,
Under the "Amiga on eBay" section, he has his list of
ebay sellers to avoid, but there seems to be one missing.

And from his "Helpful Tidbits" section, I guess I should
sell my A3000 and my A3000T, as any A2000 equiped with
the same processor will be faster because of "Commodore's decision to include a bus management chip, called "Buster," in the design of the Amiga 3000. Unfortunately for the user, all Buster manages to do is to create a bottleneck for information that slows the computing process."

Jeez, he can't be much of an A2000 "expert" if he doesn't even know that the A2000 has a Buster too (although not the Super Buster of the A3000 & A4000)

So, the point is:

1. He purchased a few computers and had fun(although, I hate to think what he did to that poor little vic 20)

2. He found idiots like himself to trade a new computer for a home built PC.

3. He copied all the software for the commodore 64.

4. He copied all the software for the Atari.

5. I assume he copied all the software for the Amiga.

6. He copied lots and lots of software.

I do not see anything really useful he did, but He did have a lot of fun drinking beer at copy parties. I guess that counts for something.

I was thinking somewhat similar. In the video he says (about the VIC-20 from his roommate):

"I sat down in front of the computer, turned it on, and started doing things with it"..

Right now I have very vomit-inducing visualisations. Poor VIC-20  :-(

There is a difference between putting up a page with you history written in it (which he already has), and making a 12-minute video of yourself, in which you tell the same story.

If I could give a tip to Doomy: make a video in which you actually DO something, or show something on that marvellous Amiga 2000 (I wonder why he is sitting in front of an A4000 instead though) rather than sitting still and telling a fairytale in a way too monotonous voice.

I agree, this jerk gets way too much attention from members here.  Wasted bandwidth is all it is.  I could not stand to watch more than a few seconds of the video and from what I have read here, I am glad I did not waste my time.

TjLazer, you don't actually like that idiot or believe anything he writes or says, do you?  I can't imagine why you would visit his website to find that video?  Maybe the others here are right when they say you and he are the same person?

Anyway, it is not worth my time or energy to think or read about it any further.  Doomy is the biggest loser in the Amiga community I have ever come across.

The A2000 was probably out at the shooting range getting in practice to maintain its military readiness. It takes lots of hard work to keep your body up to military spec.

I don't get it.
Is he some kind of celebrity or authority on computers?
What does he do? Is he a famous programmer? Musician? Graphics artist?  :-?
I totally understand interviews with e.g. Eugene Jarvis, because it has a (maybe somewhat narrow) public interest. But really, who is this guy? Why didn't he just make a personal web page?

Please enlighten me.  :-)

How boring can one single person be? I feel pity for him, even if he continually screws his ebay customers.

Wikipedia: A celebrity is a widely-recognized or famous person who commands a high degree of public and media attention. A famous definition of celebrity comes from the cultural theorist Daniel Boorstin. In his book, The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-Events in America, he cynically describes celebrities as people well known for their “well-knowness”.

I thought the video was interesting in that you can now see the person we've been following all these years. We are all Doomy Groopies.

Looking forward to you showing us your 'professional soldering skills' - do we get this treat for Xmas?

PS: May I call you Dumbo?

I don't think anybody should be watching this.
I'm sure his droning voice is an attempt to either hypnotise     or subdue the mind enough to be susceptible to subliminal messages.

My nick used to be a bit of a joke.
Won't be for much longer if I keep watching this video.
Someone please drag me away from this screen.
