I used to boot from my IDE HDD (SCSI.device).
This spring I bought a Yamaha SCSI-IDE bridge and I connected a second IDE-HDD to my 1230SCSI-controller.
The bridge works OK..., HDtoolbox could find the HDD, I could format it and I gave that partition the highest bootpriority so my Amiga started from that new HDD.
but..
Yesterday I disconnected the old HDD which was connected to the SCSI.device. But now, my Amiga didn't boot anymore from the HDD at the 1230SCSI.device (black screen).
When I re-conntect the old HDD to SCSI.device, my amiga boots again from the new HDD at 1230SCSI.device.
Can anyone help me?
Is it about jumpering the 1230SCSI.device??

Without a device on the internal IDE port, the Amiga needs up to 30 seconds before it starts to boot. Just wait a little longer.

I used BlizKick with NoIDE-module when i had my 1230-IV & SCSI.

Or put a "terminator" on the IDE port.
Put one 4.7 kilo-ohms resistor to pin 3 to pin 39. And another 4.7k from pin 5 to 39 (too). This little hack do the trick.

This is the hack, well explained (but in german):IDE-killer (http://aminet.net/docs/hard/IDE_Killer.lha)

Hi,
Thanks for the suggestions!
I think the trick with Blizkick only works for the 2nd reboot?
The trick with the IDE-killer...mmm :)
Q: when I buy a IDE->CF converter and connect it to a CF card.... Is my amiga booting directly from my 1230SCSI??

I think it is an other problem. You forgot to put a filesystem on the new HD in the HDToolbox. As long as the old internal HD is connected it is no problem, as the amiga will take the filesystem information from that drive and use it to read the "SCSI" HD. Once you remove the old drive the Amiga has no clue how to read from the new drive, it`s like there is not data on the new drive.
Open HDToolbox, see whet filesystem ist "assigned to the internal HD and put the same on the SCSI HD. As the new drive is already formated with this filesystem there should be no Problem or dataloss, but just in case make a backup before doing this.
An other issue could be that the bootpartition on the SCSI HD isn`t smaller then 2 GB

It doesn't hurt to check, but I don't think this is the problem. If it was the case, then the machine would not stick on a black screen for a while and then start to boot, but it would crash and reboot and crash and reboot and so on. You should at least see the power LED blinking.
Bye,
