Title: Auto Mouse/Joystick Switcher problems.
Post by: Anonymous MOS on July 29, 2007, 04:03:45 AM
Hey guys,

I just recently bought an Automatic Mouse/Joystick Switcher from Amigakit, but it doesn't seem to want to work very well with the Cocolino mouse adapter that I bought at the same time. When I cold boot my system, I have to unplug and re-plug the cocolino into the switcher for it to recognize any pressed mouse buttons.  After that it works fine with resets.  It also doesn't like the mouse wheel either, because that never works.

Anyone familiar with the Auto mouse/stick switcher have any ideas for hardware hacks or otherwise for either of my problems?

Thanks,
Steve

@Amigakit:  Do you know who manufactures the Autoswitcher, and if they can be contacted?

Thanks,
Steve

The autoswitcher is manufactured by Individual Computers.

The Cocolino by Elbox.  We will contact Individual about this.

I think wheel mice need some special software for the Amiga to know how to use them. I'd expect that if you bought an adapter, they would've included the driver. Maybe AmiNet has some to download?

Does the joystick/mouse switcher work with a regular Amiga mouse? Maybe the Cocolino doesnt translate the mouse signal to EXACTLY what an Amiga mouse sends, so the switcher doesn't recognize it properly. Or I suppose it could be some electrical issue... you have 2 devices between the Amiga and the mouse, maybe thats adding too much resistance to the current? Beats me. Wait to see what the manufacturer says.

Looks like there's a few wheelmouse programs on AmiNet. I'm kind of amazed that the Cocolino wouldn't come with this kind of thing. Are you sure there's not some floppy in the box that you overlooked?

The Cocolino PS/2 Adapter (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=cocolino) is supplied with the excellent FreeWheel as standard

Does Freewheel allow to use buttons to be mapped to right Amiga and a left mouse click?

No, it's not a driver problem.  It's the circuitry in-between.  The Cocolino works fine with the wheel and all if it's plugged directly into the Amiga.  But when it's passing through the Autoswitcher, it has a problem recognising the Cocolino at first unless it's unplugged and re-plugged, and the wheel never works.

Oh, and the disk with drivers came with the Cocolino, and they are already installed.  :-)

Thanks,
Steve

Also, yes, the switcher works fine with a regular Amiga mouse.

Thanks,
Steve

If thats the case, I kind of suspect that you can use the Cocolino or the switcher, but if you use both you'll have to just accept the problems you're having. The switcher probably is designed to only pass on signals that it thinks a mouse (or joystick) should be sending. Some of the other signals, like the wheel, are probably just being dropped. Probably you need to ask the switcher manufacturer if that's the case and encourage them to fix it in the next design revision.

Yep, I figured that already.  That's why I was asking Amigakit if he knew who manufactured them, that way, maybe they could help me with a hack if possible. :-)

Thanks,
