Title: Toaster floppy 42
Post by: frl9lk on July 25, 2007, 12:34:03 AM
I've had to reinstall on my A4000, and find that after hours of disk swaps disk #42 fails. If anyone can hook me up with a replacement, tell me a workaround, etc. I'd truly appreciate it.

Aren't Toaster disks NonDOS?  Can I ADF or DMS it?  If so I can email you the archive.

Nevermind, yes 30 to 45 are A4000 specific so are HD...

1 to 29 are DSDD disks, 30 to 45 are HD?

Sure enough, 1-29 are 880k; 30 and above are HD... I hadn't even noticed.

How can you ADF a 1.76MB disk?

I went ahead and DMSed all 45 disks last night for good measure, been meaning to anyway...

Wow, 45 disks?!? Thats atrocious! Anyway, I'm pretty sure that you can ADF HD disks, and also NDOS disks. I'm not 100% sure but I think ADF works somewhat like dd in Unix and if an Amiga can read the disk, whatever format it is, it can makde an ADF of it.

Don't wast your time just contact Newtek and get the latest CD of the software version 4.3 it has two versions of the software and alows both to be installed so you can choose either the old 3.5 stile switcher or the new timeline editor in 4.3
The disks are a pain in the but to install with and are outdated by 3 newer CD versions of the software.

Don't the CD's need installer disks? Why is that?  I think I have a 4.2 CD here...

Yes, they come with one floppy install disc. The 4.3 CD comes with it.
I'm not 100% sure but I'm sure the 4.3 version is the only one that dosent have the encryption with it that wont alow it to be installed with just any version of the Toaster. All older versions needed to be installed with the right firmware installed on the Toaster card its self and only Newtek has the firmware and they do the flash themselves so using version 4.0 through 4.2 CDs may not work on his card.
