Title: Miami and prism2.device...
Post by: Jose on July 20, 2007, 06:30:14 PM
Just checking out I'm choosing the right settings.
This is actually on a bare A1200, so maybe some of the problems I experienced were due to lack of ram.

1- Right now should I choose ethernet or other point to point on the hardware settings ?

2- What actual diferences are there between the types "lan" and "internet" when you start to define an interface ?

Choose ethernet. I'm not really sure on Internet vs. LAN. Mine's set to LAN, though.

It might have something to do with gateways and routing. My guess would be you'd use Internet if your machine was a direct gateway to the main network interface (cable modem). I think most people have routers serving as gateways now, rather than dedicated machines, so the internet option will rarely get used. If that's the case, then LAN would be for any machines behind the router/gateway.

Makes sense, I'm trying to connect to a wireless AP though, so in my case must be internet I think ...

IIRC the distinction between LAN and internet is only present in MiamiDeluxe, not in Miami. The difference is that internet is blocked by the firewall while LAN is not. You should use LAN for all interfaces no matter if you connect through Ethernet or WLAN. Only if you connect directly to the ADSL modem, without a router inbetween, you should choose internet.

Bye,
Thomas
