removed due to harassment/teases by several users in violation of site TOU, will re-post later after looking into this....
-
Why the increase in prices lol :-D
-
Raising prices instead of lowering? Interesting tactic!
-
It's called the Doomy Phenomena. You question or comment on the sellers motives, prices, and he comes back with BAAMMM!!! Increased prices!! Works every time!! :roflmao:
-
If it matters, the price was
$115 on craigslist PHOENIX on
july 4th (http://phoenix.craigslist.org/sys/366410783.html) and July 13th (http://phoenix.craigslist.org/sys/373335445.html)
then it was $120 on craigslist SEATTLE on
July 14th (http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pho/371611740.html)
and you can see it's $150 here on AO (right now, at least).
(That's all I know. Craigslist doesn't have a cross-regional search function.)
Price changes aren't strange. Especially if you think people in Seattle, Washington would pay $5 more than people in Phoenix, Arizona or people on AO would pay $30 more than craigslisters (I guess). What's weird is joining AO on the 12th, reposting to craigslist on the 13th, then moving all the way to Washington on the 14th in time to post to craisglist again. Then, threatening me via pmail when I point it out and ask where you really live. Fun times.
-
He threatend me by PM too, told me if i didnt remove my comment he would report me to network ops or even higher lol. Told him that its clled freedom of speech, and asked what was higher, was god going to strike me down lol
-
Craigslist doesn't have a cross-regional search function.
One workaround for that is to google like this:
"amiga 4000 site:craigslist.org"
This returns every craigslist.org post in the world with "Amiga 4000". I'm not sure how you would go about filtering it down to, say, one specific state or a multi-state region?

It might be honest, but it's not very nice guys. If you don't like someone's auction, just ignore it. You don't have to go out of your way to be a prat every time (speaking to no particular person here, just a general statement).
eBay exists to sell stuff and to make money. No other reason. It's not the altruistic garage sale some of you wish it were, and people aren't putting their stuff there -- in most cases -- to give it away. That they could do by putting it on the curb.
If you didn't like the guy's auction, don't bid on it. He'll get the idea and -- depending on how much he actually wants to sell it -- will either adjust or give up. No additional harassment necessary.

Harassment isn't necessary, but advance warnings to others surely are fair game. Ebay is more than just a profit center. Its a phenomena. No matter how underhanded the auction, no matter how unfair the terms, no matter how absurd the price, and no matter how dubious the seller's reputation, somebody always falls victim and winds up complaining about it here.

While I would agree with you in principle, especially where doomy is concerned, it's a caveat emptor world out there. It's good that everyone mentioned their opinion, but there were other ways of doing it rather than being directly confrontational. Never were the words "my advice" or "In my opinion it's priced too high" given.
Then again, the remaining Amiga community isn't know for it's subtlety or diplomacy. Bunch of rabid dogs on a carcass we are.

he advertised it here because he did think he would get more money... so i think he just got what he deserved. because there are stupid people on ebay don't mean there are stupid people at amiga.org....

And I would agree with this. The whole thing just sounded to suspicious. The main problem was that he atacked over zealiously when people started some good humored ribbing. We ARE a community, a semi-tight one at that. That means we kid, geer, congratz., console, etc. all on the same board and even in the same Topic.
This guy was a new comer expecting to be trusted w/o question. Me, I've been on A.org for years; I just sold stuff only on here; I made sure to answer questions BEFORE they even came up so ppl. knew what they were getting; I didn't expect ppl. to throw money at me w/o question; I didn't expect high bids but GOOD bids from ppl. who would keep this stuff alive.
In short, the seller wansn't looking for a community but an alternate E-bay...

The guys a nut job, and also he protesteth too much. just checked my emails and saw this.
"I would appreciate it if you removed your slanderous comments on the
amiga.org board. Such comments can cost you a lot of money. Thank you.

Heh, I'd send back a PM like this...
"Sir, I will NOT retract my comments, slanderous or otherwise, as they amuse myself, my friends, and most likely everyone who knows you.
"If it WILL cost me money, they I hope you are not allergic to copper as I recognize the penny as the only legal and proper curnecy of the United States."
-
Just as well im based in the UK :-D
I jusr replied "Yawn". That always amuses me :-D
Had he been a bit more calm on the PM he sent me, I might have been less reactionary myself.
-
so, does something "curious"
then gets questioned about it
and then in response to a reasonable question starts making entirely random and illogical threats?
that's VERY SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR
maybe he'll pm me too for just commenting about that FACT in this thread
:D
btw, isn't the tradition to sell the stuff on ebay as milspec and then "have difficulties" shipping it and just keep the money etc
"if it looks like a scam, it probably is™"
and, incidentally, I haven't said one slanderous thing in this post :)

LOL. Slander is verbal, LIBEL is written. And nothing you wrote approached Libel. Libel is saying something like "I know for a fact this person stole XXX" when it can't be proven to be true (criminal history). Saying you think someone is probably a scammer, and that in your opinion they are just a plain jerk and you think they eat egg water on weekends isn't libel. That's called a negative opinion.:D
Well, here in the USA anyway.

you're an idiot

The whole thing just sounded to suspicious.
I did a search for "amiga for sale" just recently on google, and found that he had also posted to the Washington, DC craigslist and I wasn't even looking for posts by him. It was flagged for removal before I got there. Looks like some people independent of AO have also found his posts to be suspicious. (Assuming it hadn't been flagged by AO people in Washington, DC, that is. :-))
-
Well, they don't seem suspicious to me... but I did expect the reply to email address to be @aol.com.

We've *ALL* made mistakes, Mate.

Members here are brutal!
Sharp, sometimes brilliant, usually extremely helpful, often very witty, or outright hilarious, AND overall brutal toward the unsuspecting that show any questionable behavior. I love it!
I had better watch my step or I may get thrown under the bus next. :-o
-
You had better get rid of it quick before everyone finds out!
(I'm just teasing)
Since you can't actually use their horribly slow and unstable advertising loaded browser on your Amigas you are exempt!
:D
