Title: unable to open "installer" tool...
Post by: PaperMario on July 16, 2007, 06:11:14 AM
tried recently install whdload on my workbench and this is the message I'm getting:

unable to open "installer" tool

I have downloaded various installers(including NG) from aminet and copied them to c directory, yet everything remains the same...
should I activate it somehow?

Use either the 43.3 or 44.10 version of Installer. Copy to SYS:Utilities and/or C:.

Check the WHDLoad default tool to make sure it's not looking for it in a specific location.

well all installers didn't work, ng crashes the installs(requires some additional icons?), do you know where to find 44.10?
aminet doesn't have it.

InstallerNG has some additional features which may not be compatible with some installation scripts.

Have you run snoopdos to see where that particular installation script is looking for the installer tool?

You do not need to either activate it or do anything else. As long as it is there, it should work.

To cover all bases I sometimes copy "installer" to c:, utilities, and tools (just to be on the safe side).

Installer can be found on your OS installation disks (OS3.0/3.1 - on the "installation" disk iirc).

Regards

Rich

EDIT: Updated typos - had put "install" instead of "installer". Thanks PJHutch.

Just a quick note: "install" creates a bootable floppy, while "installer" runs applications installations. Two entire seperate things!

Download v43 from here:
http://aminet.net/search?query=installer-43

v44 is only available with AmigaOS 3.5 or 3.9.
