The price cut changes my opinion of it from "absolutely not" to "no"

heh heh...same here! :-)

Wake me up when it hits sub £150 pricing. Even then I'm not sure I could be bothered. Same goes for the XBox360.
-
I'll buy one when it drops below £300.
Hell, ok, make it £350. I really want one, okay?
-
give ps3 time until next year then we got the games and another price drop :)
one thing is for sure there aint no point in getting a xbox360 now, microsoft must release a new improved hardware. its the console with the biggest failure rate in console history!. the new improved xbox360 will have better cpu that uses 65nm technology and better hw design. it will come next year or two years from now.....
the wii is only a beefed up gamecube, so aint worth looking at before it gets hdmi port and more mature games. as it is now it only have games for kids and grandmas.....
the nextgen consoles will be more intressting from 1-2 years from now....
-
The Wii is a beefed up GC indeed, but I really love it. Cheap, quiet, easy to mod, classic games (rumour has it that some C64 titles will be released too), and it even gets you out of the sofa.
But, yeah, it needs more titles. And a homebrew option for non-modded consoles.
-
AS the wii may seem a little too childish for you and all may i remind you that a game soon to be realesed for that console just got banned from the uk "manhunter 2" anyone? It also have resident evil 4 as well as a hitman game so i would use the term console for the whole family ;-) . I personally have one and enjoy it becouse it simply is not a replica off all other based on best spec and graphics . It gives you what you want a game consept that is fun ??? ... I actually use more time on that than my xbox 360 . perfect for small partys grab a few beers and compete  in wii sports. First week owning that console nearly broke my arm :bigcry: but could not stop play just ignored the pain hehe ... Other words i love it :-D
Errhhhhmmm back on the topic "New playstation" who cares ? Is the improvemnt really that big ? and isent it a bit too desperate by sony "i mean how long has the first modell been out" hmm it diddent sell try something new ? 100$ price cut was it on the normal modell ? still can not justify too spend that much on a console that does not beat the crap out of the xbox in fact multi platform games are actually worst off on the cell arcitecture. But hope the price drop more i stil want the bugger i collect after all :-) .

Yeah, I like my beefed up Gamecube...
...then again I liked my regular Gamecube.
I recently had my tenant's PS3 hooked up to my 1080i 50" DLP TV and played several games. The graphics were impressive for a minute, then you actually have to play the game using a traditional controller and you forget about the graphics completely. I played Fear, Resistance:FoM, Motorstorm & GT-HD. I tried Motorstorm with tilt steering and that aspect worked like the Wii. However playing the 2 FPS games was a chore compared to even a so-so FPS on the Wii (Red Steel).
The Wii's controls is what makes it "Next-Gen". Until you've put in some hours with them you don't know how bad tradtional controls were. I own RE4:Wii and GC editions and the improvements over the GC version (faster load times, 75% more pixels <852x480 vs. 640x360>, better lighting and particle/fog effects) are enough to see there is much untapped potential in the Wii that a quick port by a competent developer fleshed out. Included in the disc is a trailer for Resident Evil:Umbrella Chronicles - an arcade shooter like VirtuaCop. The game looks graphically impressive. It's almost FMV quality but it's totally rendered because you can look around in this on-rails shooter to find hidden bonuses. Again - a good developer can do wonders with the system.
Poor Wii graphics to date are due to lazy developers (who didn't even approach Gamecube-level graphics) and the fact that first batch of Wii games didn't use the finalized gpu api and documentation. They were working with tweaked Gamecube specs.

dreamcast all the way baby. It was fun before the Wii was ever even a design and has about the same spcs. (with VGA adapter)
@adonay
yes the ps3 IS much better for example you can use it with an HD set, if you don't have one, so what, if you DO have one, why would you want to waste it with a Wii? Then I would love to fight you in soul calibur as you try to figure out what you are doing with your motion sensor (gimmick). Also once some of the new games come out, that are 25 gig plus, you will be heading to the store to get a ps3, becasue then you Wii will look like wii.
anyway I don't need any of this garbage because I have a dreamcast and an amiga, I can wait until the PS3 is free.

Hmm... $500 US is £250...
I bought mine when it was $700 CDN, a few months after launch, because I couldn't wait...
Then afterwards I had to buy a PS2 as well, as the Guitar Hero contoller (the guitar) would not work on a PS3 even though the game runs perfectly!
Oh well... better Sony than Microsoft... :-)

That's right, but the cheapest available PS3 in Norway at the moment is 5500 NOK (£470) :-/
So, yeah, I'll wait a little longer.

What kind of harddisk does the ps3 use ?
I see some 20gb models for 300-400$ in japan. Can I put in a 300 gb sata hdd there ? (I guess not but hey ...)
-
countzero: 2.5" SATA (link (http://www.slashgear.com/ps3-hard-drive-upgrade-132464.php))
-
Hey, that's cool, I checked and I found new 2.5 sata drives for about 100$.
So if I buy a 20gb model only thing I'm missing is the Wi-fi ? (and the smart card readers ?)

Correct, also unlike M$, Sony hasn't imposed hardware restrictions on the hard drives you can use... So basically you can pick up any SATA drive off the shelf and plug it in.
Btw, I also just read this:

80 GB Playstation 3 Will Be First NTSC PS3 To Drop PS2
Monday, 09 July 2007
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) just announced its new Playstation 3 price point and 80GB model. Along with the announcement came the system specs for the 80 GB ($599) and 60 GB PS3 ($499). The specs were the same, except for the HDD size of course.
[...]
"The current 60 GB model utilizes a hardware and solution for backwards compatibility, namely the Emotion Engine chip. The new 80 GB PS3 will use a software solution for backwards compatibility, similar to that currently found in the PAL model," said Kimberly Otzman, SCEA Corporate Communications Representative.

Well that sucks... Avoid the 80 GB model then... ;)

What are you going on about ? I have DC as well loved games such as shenmue, baserk and as well as soul calibur toataly i think i have a list of 30 games for it bought 20 dirt cheap when it all went down under. Was great for its time . As for graphics hmmm not sure the DC can cope with the chipset in wii remember it is a newer chip with support for more shaders etc. Please note that the gfx in consoles are The main part the cpu has trditionally always been underpowerd see for example xbox 1 or ps 1.. Having sayed that i dont apply the wii has better graphics than my 360 nor more prosessing power nor memmory or hd but it still gives you a unique game experience something that the ps1 ps2 ps3 xb1 xb360 dont, they are all the same consept. As for ps3 we have one in the wellfare at the oilrigg i work and i really can not see it is worth that much. It is good ofcourse but not THAT good

The GC was much more powerful than the DC. It did come out 3 years later so that isn't surprising. The Wii is more powerful still (between 1.5x - 2x Gamecube).
One of the things I love about the Wii is how it has managed to get the fanboys and the technophiles into such a tizzy. The idea that everyone can get involved and that it's the least technically capable that is the most popular seems to blow peoples minds.
My blister-inducing button-mashing hardcore days are firmly behind me. I'd rather a quick bash on Wii Tennis or Guitar Hero with a bunch of friends than 30+ hours sat on my own trying to snap soldier's ultra-realistic necks in Metal Gear Solid.
