I want to put a PSU inside my a1200. Something like a picoPSU. Has someone done this before?
I'm looking for a manual/pics or tips of how to do it.
Cheers,
Winston

It is definately possible. Whether anyone has actually done it yet? Don't know. Once you figure that problem out, have a look and see if a stowable LCD monitor could somehow be rigged onto a regular A1200. It might not be as slick as an STbook, but you could lay claim to owning first real Amiga "laptop". :)

With a bit of bodging and relocating of parts im sure something bigger than a pico PSU could be fitted in there. Won't necessarily leave much room for other stuff, and whatever you do don’t go and electrocute yourself...very easily done with the 300uF 250V caps on modern PSU's...

there is no place to fit there any psu..that's imposible
heat'disipators don't fit..

That's why ws1968 suggested PicoPSU. You can fit 10 of those in an A1200. Maybe even 20.
@ws1968: hey, another Dutchman, from Ede off all places (I work there)

You could definitely do it... consider hacking a small laptop power supply and fitting it under the keyboard between the floppy and hard drive.
It's not easy but I don't see it being all that difficult either.

It would be a bit of a trick to find a laptop psu with +5v +12v and -12v.
Have a look at my photos. Theres a small PSU there with all of the required rails and ratings that might just fit (Called: Alternative PSU ?). Unfortunatly (Or fortuntunatly) all of the components are approximatly the same physical height, so re-locating one or two would be a bit pointless.

@ LaserBack
It is not impossible as you say. There are always means and ways of doing things that are supposed to be impossible.
If those that said that things are impossible then technology would not be as it is today.
NOTHING is impossible and I should know because my wife TELLS me when she wants things done.

Although he manages to write in the most confusing manor I've ever seen Delshay's project 5 (http://www.amiga.org/gallery/index.php?n=2024=10) apparently does exactly what you're asking about. Just have a look at some of his other photos and maybe try PM'ing him for more information.

This project only fits an ATX power connector to the A1200 mobo, would love to see a standard ATX power supply fit inside an A1200 case   :-)

Ah yes, but the picoPSU plug into a standard atx power block. Like so: link (http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/it.A/id.417/.f?sc=8) Thus in order to use a picoPSU you would need to mod an atx connector onto the board anyway.

Just confirming that. Even if you did manage to fit a ATX plug to the motherboard and connect the picoPSU to it, you still need to find somewhere to put the adaptor unit within the case.
Im not a great fan of having multiple stages of voltage conversion one after another (As with the picoPSU) - It all seems wasteful and reduces the overall efficiency of the system (A lot of their efficiency figures are >95% ... Id like to see some evidence...). Id opt for a miniure PSU if possible that provides the +5v +12v and -12v rails straight from mains (Just bear in mind that whatever option you choose, depending upon where you locate it, you may find yourself severly restriced for certain types of upgrades)
Hey, what are you actually looking to use the A1200 for anyway?

I can't remember if the A1200 requires 12v (I think that it doesn't but maybe the disk drive or a 3.5´ HD does) but I read in a specification sheet that using a picoPSU if you need 12v is not a very good idea.

i did make a internal one out of a powersuply for external cdrom but afraid it diddent have all that power so i trew it away. Was usable with the unexpanded 1200 . I put it under the disk drive "scsi ribbon and connector place" the wire`s were routed too the disk power and powered the amiga just fine maybe even for a 030 it would be ok but for my needs nono hence a mod for fun but not for use .
*edit* the external cd\hd case poweradapters have both +5 and +12
to give you some idea i provided this EBAY LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-2-0-To-IDE-2-5-3-5-Adaper-Cable-Power-Supply-IUIU_W0QQitemZ180136716248QQihZ008QQcategoryZ41994QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

OK, thanks for the info. At work we have a dozen or so old Dell notebooks. I'll see if I can do something with powersupply of one of them.

We also have some old thin client PC's wich I can butcher. I'll see if the PSU is small enough to fit in the A1200.
Hmmm. it looks too big, but i'll let you guys know.

I've seen his effort.... I like hacks, but this one is too advanced for me. I'm not that brave :)

Nothing special. Just WHDLoad. I want to do this just for the fun of it.
