I have installed AfA_OS as per the instructions in the guide. When the system boots it hangs at a black screen. There is no error or guru. If I run AFA_OS_LOADER with SnoopDOS running, I get
this report (http://www.mashley.net/snoopdos.txt). The last two lines keep repeating over and over again. Here (http://www.mashley.net/startup-sequence.txt) is my startup sequence.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

firstly add C:morelibspace before setpatch
also you should definetely use stackattack.
go to the drawer you installed afa_os and open patch. use the rawbinfo patch program. It should create a patched rawbinfo in wbstartup. move the old one to the disabled drawer in your wbstartup.
-
Turn your computer off and on. Reboot is not enough for morelibspace.
-
BTW. I wonder if I will be able to use afaos with my real Amiga together with Blizkick?
-
Thanks for the advice. I did installed StackAttack and added morelibspace as suggested. The machine now boots, but my background is dithered poorly and no applications will run. Amidock doesn't open, and I can't even press RAMIGA-E to bring up the Execute dialogue.
[EDIT]
If I hold down the LMB during boot to disable AFA-OS then everything works ok. This is on a real Amiga by the way, not emulated.
[/EDIT]
Any other suggestions?

this should be something to do with iprefs not loading corretly. Just a guess.
Have you tried putting afaos just before iprefs?
change Assign AFA_OS_Libs: LIBS:AfA_OS_Libs
to Assign >NIL: AFA_OS_Libs: LIBS:AfA_OS_Libs
and then try moving powericons just before loadwb.
-
Thanks so much FaLLeNOnE. Your suggestion of moving AFA_OS_LOADER just before IPrefs worked. My backdrop was still dithered, but I chose a 16 bit screenmode instead of 15 bit and this is now fine. Strange because 16 bit screenmodes never worked before!
I now have just minor problems with the appearance of the text. As you can see here (http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm244/motorollin/aorg/text.jpg), the background colour of inactive window border text is grey instead of transparent. In the active window it looks fine. Also the text on the Workbench title bar is too far over to the left so the boing ball overlaps it. The text used to be to the right of the boing ball before I installed AfA-OS. Finally, the window border text is not vertically aligned, whereas it was before.
Any advice on these minor problems would be really appreciated. Thanks again for your help so far.

A bit off topic here but how's the speed? For me AfA OS was noticably slower than using iconbefast.
-
@motorollin
I think your original location of AfA_OS_Loader in s-s was correct. I mean on my system I run it right after C:AddDatatypes command and before VisualPrefs and IPrefs and everything works fine. However, disable PowerIcons as this patch is not needed anymore with AfA_OS. In addition, try to remove picture_datatype.exe and ilbm_datatype.exe from AfA_OS_Libs: directory and reboot. While this new picture datatype replacement supports alpha channels and other features, it might not be compatible with your system.

Noticed that too but with the newest AfA version it's sas fast as the latest iconbefast patch version
-
Is that version 3.96? That's what I tested and was slow on my system.

Yessss....3.96
the AfA ttf fonts slow down the system alot
-
I don't really care about the fonts. It's the icons I'm after but I tried Ken's Icons with AfA OS and that was slow. Takes a lot of time to open a drawer with lots of icons (like Prefs) and when you scroll the window it stutters. Both things don't happen with my IconbeFast library...

@Flashlab
maybe the "Faster icons" tag is disabled in SYS:Prefs/AfA_Prefs ?

I have disabled this now, thanks. Perhaps the AfA loader would work in its original location now, but it's working where it is so I don't see any need to change it.

I have removed this and my backdrop is perfect now. Thanks!
I am still having problems with the text orientation and inactive window border text background, so any help appreciated with those.

I have just moved the AFA loader directly after AddDataTypes and all of the problems are solved now! I think the important point is that AFA has to be loaded before VisualPrefs.
Thanks again everyone for all the help.
