Hi guys and girls.
Just thought I'd be polite and pop in to say hi.
Here's a sad story, all the time I was growing up (I'm 31 now) I had a Spectrum, which I loved, but I always wanted an Amiga (or an ST at a push). Sadly my parent's couldn't afford such luxuries, so I went without!
So fast-forward a good many years, and I've got spare cash and an Ebay account...
Bought myself an A1200 with a 1.3Gb HDD for £30, a quick appeal on FreeCycle brought me boxes and boxes of games (some of which were no longer serviceable, but a good few were) and here I am! I love the way I can buy legitimate software, with all the lavish packaging, off ebay for less than a fiver a pop.
Currently loving Beneath a Steel Sky, Monkey Island, Syndicate, Speedball 2, Simon the Sorceror, Cannon Fodder, Liberation, and loads more!
I can honestly say I've had more fun on my Amiga this past fortnight than I *ever* have on my Xbox (which is now merely a DVD player).
My Amiga sits proudly under my living room telly now - ready to be put into action after a long day's work! What a terrific machine!
Anyway glad to be here, and thanks in advance for putting up with my inevitable n00b questions...

Welcome to amiga.org!

Yup eBay is at times a treasure for people wanting all the things we couldn't have as kids ;)
Yorks nice, hope the rain isn't causing too much flooding up there. I was up York two weeks ago to see my lil' sis, her partner and their new baby daughter (I say little sis is 26 years old in a few weeks!).
... now if only there was a way to get hardware DVD playback in an Amiga you could get rid of that xbox too :-D
Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome!
Flooding's not too bad here, luckily. The Ouse floods if someone spits in it, so most places are already well prepared.
DVD? I'm having enough fun trying to get my Squirrel CD drive to work! :)

Welcome to the forum... and what an EXCELLENT taste in games you have :) You've listed a large chunk of my favourites... :) And it's good to see another UKer about too :)

Thanks again all - it's a cliche, but current games just seem to lack any kind of real playability (with a few exceptions). The guys at work are always carping on about their PS3s and 360s, but I'm satisfied with my little beige beauty!

It's just so true, I have an Xbox360 and access to a PS3 at work in our games room, but get talking about an A1200 or playing Syndicate and people really stop and listen.
Guess they just hold a lot of memories for a lot of people.

Dear Friend:
Me too (35 yrs old) could not affford an amiga when younger, and I really wanted to have one. BUt now i am older and can afford to have one, and now i have had my a1200 for 10 years. When I went to college (10 yrs ago)
I ended up having good money and was able to buy my nice ami 1200. And I loved it!!!! Is been good all these years.
My favorite software is aladdin 4d (amiga raytracing),
amos pro (programming), CanDo (authoring), octamed (music),
and of course, the zillion amiga games.
Hope you love your amiga!!!

Excellent! I appreciate all the Amiga can do as far as programming, art etc but as I'm a web developer/programmer for a living, mines purely for gaming and escapism!
