Alrighty, I almost got MP3's to work correctly! Got rid of the "static" it was user error on my part... copied the mpega060FPU.library instead of the mpega060.library, whoops!
Sounds plays now!!! YAY! However the sound is a bit "grainy"... 11k mono(?) (No I DO NOT have an amiga sound card!) You can read my Amiga systems specs below in my signature.
Is there a way to I adjust the audio chip settings?

Well, I'm using mp3Play on an A2000/060, with standard sound, and this works okay! Seems to latch on to MPEGA which I also have:

What's This?
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
mp3Play is a small (almost tiny) GUI for MPEGA, the Amiga MP3 Player.
It's written in ARexx and needs RexxReqTools.library to work.

mp3Play The GUI Script
mp3Config Configuration Script
ReadMe This file
Requirements
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
· ARexx (with RexxMast running)
· MPEGA
· rexxreqtools.library (available from aminet, reqtoolsusr.lha)
No AHI, 24-bit Workbench screen or PowerPC CPU is needed
for it to look and sound good :)
I guess the GUI is blazing fast even on a vanilla 68000 machine,
since it only uses ReqTools. I haven't tested this though.
Installation
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
1. Copy the mp3Play directory to the wished destination
(for example, your hard drive)
2. Run mp3Config. This script is quite self-explanatory,
so I won't bother to explain it here.
The default MPEGA options (-d 2 -q 1 -p 3 -b 32) gives
me a clear, crisp sound using only about 25% CPU on my
A1200 with a 50MHz 060. However, you might wish to
replace these with the ones of your choice.
mp3Config creates a file called "mp3Play.cfg" in your
s: directory. It's a very small file containing
only one line of text.
Usage
¯¯¯¯¯
1. Run mp3Play
- From Workbench: Double-click the icon.
- From CLI: 1> rx mp3Play
2. Now the GUI appears. It has three buttons:
Play, Stop and Quit.
The Play button throws up a file requester
(NO multiple choice available). When you've
selected an mp3 file, mp3Play starts playing it.
If mp3Play is already playing a file when the
Play button is pressed, mp3Play stops playing
the old file and throws up a file requester.
The Stop button stops playing.
The Quit button stops playing and closes the GUI.

Download MUI and Songplayer and you can adjust the frequency to 44.1 khz and High quality. Or buy AmigaOS 3.9 and you get Amiplifier with it. The MP3's sound a little better then Songplayer's output. If you buy AmigaOS 3.9, you have to download Boingbag 1 from www.amiga.com and Boingbag 2 from www.haage-partner.de. There is a problem to see the whole prefs window on a 640x256 resolution and Boingbag 2 will fix that.
