Title: A600 running WHDLoad games
Post by: rungleclot on June 19, 2007, 08:54:22 PM
Hello
Anyone out there have any experience with running whdload games on their A600 with 2megRAM?
It seems to work fine for a few games, like Turrican2, Speedball 1&2, Shadow of the beast1-3, Prince of Persia, but I can't get it to run some of my favs like Syndicate, MonkeyIsland 1&2, Another World, Flashback. Ive tried various versions and just figured that I needed a kickrom image from an a500 to run some of them, but after getting that sorted, Im now getting 'not enough ram' messages.
Anyone have any tips or tweaks I could do to get the most from the ram? and/or does anyone have a pcmcia fastram card they would be willing to part with?
Thanks

Yes the problem is Fast RAM, you don't have any.  Some games need Fast and even a 020 to run...  Get a PCMCIA sram card for upto 4MB Fast and you should be ok.

The thing that i wonder is WHY needs more ram in whdload than the original install of the game. Surely, the idea of getting all data in ram is attractive oncertain games, such as beneath steel sky and such, but why isn't this optional? I mean, why can't be loaded a game in whdload with a stock 1200 when the same game in its original form allowed it?.

it IS optional (Preload), the key word is FAST.

Read the readme to see what the requirement is!  A lot say they need fast from what I remember.  This is a hack so it will not have the same memory requirements the original game will need.  It is after all running a different way and patched to work on different envirmentments...
