Hi there,
I've always been interested in the users of Amigas who aren't in a "home" setting. I suppose the famous examples are Nasa, Babylon Five renderings etc. Cleveland art college (UK) used to use a fleet of Amiga machines for graphics teaching, and a wine merchants in the UK had a range on Amiga 3000s networked with Envoy to manage the business.
Does anyone know of organisations that used Amigas for this purpose? Perhaps still do? Would be very interested to hear the details of their setups, software they used, anecdotes etc.
Anyone?

Not maybe what you were thinking when you asked, but amigakit uses several Amigas in running the business as far as I understand.
I'm sure he'll be along soon and confirm it.
-
Yes confirmed- we use a few Amigas for invoice printing, order processing, web maintenance etc. Some in 19U rack mounted cases
We have a few business clients still using Amigas as well- the most suprising application was for train rolling-stock testing.

Cool! I'd love to see some pics of those rack-mounted Amigas :-)

Really? I realise you won't be able to say which company, but can you say which applications they use?
I'm in rolling stock myself running stress analyses using FEA software (on PCs of course) - I'd be really interested to see what is done on Amigas. The only thing I can think is something like Maple V.
Or possibly using Amigas with in-house software and custom hardware connected to RS232s, but I'd still have thought they'd have switched to PCs years ago.
Regards
Rich

That is so cool!
Custom rackmount case?

Wow - cool!

We use Amigas for running accounts and payrolls. The programs were written by a mentor of mine who upgrades as we move along. Its a very simple program based on book keeping principles using SuperBase Pro4. The original Superbase was purchased in 1991 & is still working well very stable. We have standardised on the 1200 model. I have tried Amiga Forever where most things work, except the printing side, & the recognition of Real Amiga drives. I am getting lots of support & suggestions form Amiga Org. Of course I get heaps from my PC mates.

Regarding the Rack1200 AmigaKit uses: The case must have been produced in a small batch, as I have one of those too.
I got mine from DJBase.

That rackmount Amiga is too cool! I was thinking of doing something similar with 4 C64s, each with a Prophet64 cartridge and a SID2SID board, with their audio outputs mixed, and video outputs and MIDI inputs switched to make the ultimate C64 music station :-)

I use an A1200 and A4000 for my networking company. I use them mainly for invoicing and some net design. That rackmount looks cool and I want one. Are they available?
