Title: OS3.9 CrossDos
Post by: Miloo on June 16, 2007, 01:03:48 PM
Im now having problems with crossdos on os3.9, i have to send elbox a mediator txt report file as i have no internet connection on my A4000 i have to copy the file to a 720k disk and go from there.

I open up PC0 and drag the txt file onto it and it says it has copied it and the disk space has filled up by 1%.

When i eject the disk and put it into my PC the file is not on there. I did the routine again, ejected it and then put it back in the Amiga drive and the file is still not on there.

Why is the Amiga saying it has copied the file when it hasnt?

Did you format the disk on the Amiga or on the PC?

It was formatted on my PC. The Amiga can read whats on it but cant copy to it. I tried formatting it on the Amiga but it said 'Formatting error cylinder 0'?

When you formatted it on the Amiga, did you format PC0 or DF0? If your PC0 is unmodified and mounted correctly you should get a PC0:???? icon on your Workbench when you put a disk in. Format that and it should work.

i put the devs/dosdrivers/pco into storage/dosdrivers (and reset computer) when i put a msdos disk in it comes up with the crossdos box.
ive just tried to format a disk and the bar went up to 100%, so i thought it had done it but when i clicked on pc0 it still had the original volume name and the disk was 65% full with files?!

Did you really do that? Or did you move it from storage/dosdrivers in to devs/dosdrivers? It needs to be in devs/dosdrivers or PC0 will not mount automatically.

I don't know what you mean by "crossdos box". If you mean the CrossDOS commodity, then you don't need to use it. Just go in to your Workbench partition, then in to the System drawer, and run Format. Then select whatever volume is in PC0: and do a slow format (quick format probably won't work). DO NOT remove the disk until the "Empty" icon (for the floppy disk) has appeared on your Workbench and all activity from the disk has stopped.

Thanks for your suggestions but i found the problem.

I am using an Amitek external drive and it has a 3 way switch that says Anti-virus/On/Off and it was on the Anti-virus setting, when i put it to On it allowed me to copy stuff. So i guess the Anti-virus setting was doing its job in not letting any files get transfered.

Antivirus switch usually doesn´t allow writing to track 0 and so prevents to make a bootable disk.
