Title: How many Amigas do you own?
Post by: Gavilan on June 15, 2007, 02:15:56 PM
I see some of you people signature´s and i am amazed of the stuff you have.

I have a small "theory" about people hanging out here:
1) Ex Amiga users, who still love the platform but dont really own REAL Amiga hardware anymore (just emulate)
2) Die-hard Amiga users who owns many or at least one/uses Amiga

So, just curious, and im tempted to post first, but just want to ready your storied...how many Amigas do you own??

Details please!!!

Regards

Sebastian

So which category am I? I only have couple PCs and Pegs these days. I surely don't consider myself "emulator" user...
Title: Re: How many Amigas do you own?

I'm afraid I got a bit insane too. I got an A1200(bare, got a Blizz1260 for it but it was dead), A4000D with WarpEngine/CyberVision64 and A4000T with PicassoIV/Paloma/Concierto and a 3640 (Yes, I know I must take off the 3640 and get something better).

I've considered selling my A4000D or A4000T many times cause I really don't need both but there's a problem: besides me liking them the A4000D is to small a set up for adding a PowerPC and some decent cards (get's too hot) and is a pain to mess with the internals, everything is too tight). The A4000T on the other hand, although also a pain to exchange parts inside, has much more space and so is the ideal setup to upgrade. But it's damn expensive I shouldn't have it (got it on a bargain) and could perfectly live with a less expanded Amiga. There are also times where a less expanded Amiga makes sense to use (you don't need to power all those gfx/sound/tv/lan/usb whatever cards and use a ppc, when you're simply coding some stuff on CygnusEd or playing some classic game...)

So since I can't decide wich to sell I'm keeping both for now

Technically I've got two now, but one of them is a very very flakey desktop A1200 which is in pieces. The other is my beloved A4000 (see sig). Until recently I also had a PegII.

You are not goingto believe me Piru..but while i was writing my categories...i tought about you...honestly...you are still (at least for me & for many others), a "legend" an "amiga hero"...so it doesnt matter really in which category you are...inside you are still a die hard Amiga user!!

My amiga (060+Mediator+voddo3+sb128 etc..) is the only desktop I have left, I use it to play my mp3s daily, and sometimes use amiVNC or amtelnet to connect into servers. It is well suited to the job it does but I mainly just keep it for nostalgia.

I've moved away from desktops to just having a laptop and some small servers hidden away to keep my data / processes on.

Gav - I'd say there should be a 3rd category, as well.  COLLECTOR and past enthusiast.  I own quite a few real Amigas (10+?  I'm not actually sure how many are in my collection right now...).  I have a couple really nice setups and then some spares and some I've bought for some other reason.  In all reality, I very rarely use them, though.

I mean, ranked by overall usage, no Amiga breaks the top 5:

(used daily)
1) TiVo (Series 2-DT - It has a wwwd, FTPd, and runs a Linux kernel... it's a computer, by my opinion.)
2) Win 2k3 media server (can stream video to the TiVo or play MP3s around the house, runs TiVo Desktop, etc.)
3) PocketPC (my portable brain - plus it can emulate an Amiga 500 or C64!  Amazingly useful device!)

(used weekly)
4) XP Pro workstation (my main Workstation nowadays - has UAE installed, though I haven't used UAE on it in over a year.)

(used monthly)
5) an outdated laptop running Win2k (slow and annoying at times, but it is portable, and can download large amounts of camera images, etc... Also has UAE installed, but it not even a 1.x version!)
6) my A1200 w/ GVP '030 (retro fun)
7) my SGI Octane R10k

(was once used monthly)
8) my A4000D (used to run a CSMKII 060.  now has a stock 030 card, as the MKII died, and I haven't sent it off for repairs, yet.)

(then used rarely)
My A500, A3000, and all sorts of other strange hardware I've got around.

I'm somewhat ashamed to admit it, really, but that's the situation.  At this stage, I can't see how I could classify myself as anything BUT a collector.

Here's a list off the top of my head:

1 A1000
2 A500
1 A500+
1 A2000
1 A2000(T) Bomac towered :)
1 A3000D
1 CDTV
1 A1200
2 A600
2 A4000D
1 A4000T   Amiga Tech
1 A4000(T) desktop motherboard in tower case, which is different form a A4000T mb

Since half an hour, I'm left with 1 Amiga, an A4000. My A2000 has just been dropped off at the post office.

My Amiga is still not much in use. I am constantly collecting and selling stuff here and there, but time and space to set up my miggy is still nonexistent for some reason.

I've been expanding my other collection somewhat more lately: my consoles. Currently I have a Gameboy, 2 Nintendo 64s, a PSone and a Sega Megadrive.

I had an A1000 back in about '87. Then got an A2000 in '90, and an A500 in '94. All I have left is the A2000 now. I ran a BBS on it for 5 years then it has been in the basement since about '97. About a month ago I pulled it out and brought it back to life with the help of AmigaPete.

A2000 with GVP '030@40Mhz, 4 Mb fast ram/SCSI combo board, 2 Gb HD and one HD floppy drive.

I don't use it much but my kids are starting to play games on it and love it. I travel a lot for work and play old Amiga games via WinUAE.

I have 1x1000, 2x500's, 1x2000, 1x2500, 1x1200, 2xAmithlons and AmigaForever/WinUAE.

Total = 9.

I use my Amithlon's more than my classic Amigas. It's the fastest, most modern Amigas I have.

How many? Good question!

1 A1200 (Not yet in a tower, but soon will be),030/52MHz, 130 Mb, 43GbIDE, DataFlyer SCSI, Ethernet PCMCIA, Mediator LT4+Voodoo3-3000+Realtek8139 soon (all parts are here, lacking finish the tower)
----- Used all days, my main machine -----

2 A600 - one EU PAL, other NTSC. 1.3 Gb IDE & 2 Gb IDE

1 A2000 Toaster, at the moment without accelerator, nor HD , so basically is an A500 in a big box

A lot of spare parts, Floppyes, Expansion, PCMCIA cards, etc.

And a crappy B.Gaytes box lying around for gross downloads, DVD burning and my wife's use.

An A3000D with Firecracker24 (although without the cable, doesn't really work) and 3640.

Newly arrived A4000D/040~Toaster that was a trade for my A1200 which is going to get the Cybervision64/3D I got for the 3000, but won't work without a buster11.

Clear?

Here are the Amiga's I still use:

A3000T/Warpengine/CV64/X-surf/KickFlash/FrameMachine+Prism2/AD516
This is my main Amiga and IMHO the best Amiga ever made.

A3000/OneStopMusicShop/AD516
My audio workstation connected to MIDI gear.

A1200/Blizzard 1230MKIV/Wifi/FF
The ultimate games machine.

A2000/2630+Rocket Launcher/DKB2632/Megachip/GVP 2000 HC+8/Picasso II/FF
Bought this one in 1990 after I blew up my a500. Got this one back recently and it still works fine.

And a Pegasos II which I use the most. MorphOS is fast, nice and compatible.

Amiga's I don't really use anymore:

A1000/Kickstart and RAM side expansions
Has two additional signatures on the inside, don't know from who.

CDTV and CD32/SX1

A4000/Cyberstorm PPC/EFlash/USB/MediatorDI+cards
This was my main Amiga until my Cyberstorm stopped working.

A4000/Mediator+cards/ELbox tower

That's about it :-P
I'm thinking of selling a couple Amiga's because they take a lot of room. Definitely going to keep the A3000T, A3000, and A2000.

Wow, you guys (specially the one with 30!) make me jealous!

I have 1 A1200 in daily (actually, 24/7) as in my sig. I'm still amazed at how good the graphics card makes an Amiga look, I only towered my Amiga in Jan this year.

I have a desktop A1200 with an Apollo 040, 2gb drive & a subway, but i think I've blown the video connector on it.

I also have the remains of an A1200 in a Micronik Tower; the tower broke during several trips across the channel because of a mix up with German/Uk Customs. I might be able to use the motherboard in the above desktop.

Finally, an Eyetech Tower which I started to put together some 2 years ago, but I got the Power tower in between so upgraded that instead.

So, still a bit more work to go :)

Now, the next question is, why do we all still stick with/collect all these Amiga?

Me, I just like the way it works so smoothly, plus I'm used to the programs I invested a lot of cash in

See my signature.  The A3000Ds are easily the most well rounded and capable.  The one is my main computer and used daily (right now!).  The A500/A570/SCSI-TV (my first machine) is used by the kids for general computing and playing CDs.  The A600HD still gets some use.  The other machines are in various stages od upgrades and being loaded.  Some were rescued and many are kept as spares just in case, especially the A2000s.  The A1000 is for collecting. The A1200 has bad parallel and PCMCIA ports.  Has anyone successfully replaced the CIA chips in an A1200?

Hej,
since 2002 Winuae.
But i restarted my original Amiga since one week ago.
Problem!!!
A1200
Winnertower
Z4
CGx3D
Apollo1240/40
Last i got 2ndHand
VLabMotion
Toccata
But then problems start!!
for this configuration i need fast SCSI/IDE to work Properly!
But this time, no chance to get fast controller.
Now i have Buddha!
For normal operation it's o.k..
But it never w'll make it works properly!!
So, i've turn back to WINUAE.
Original Amiga makes for me only sin to use Games,Scala400,
Adorage,MonumentTitler and some other Video/Graphics stuff.
...But for this....It's do it much better then emulation.
BUT FOR OTHER THINGS.... BETTER... WINUAE

3 working and one for parts: My original A2500 bought in 1993 which I recently revived with a new motherboard, a A2000 Toaster/Flyer that's an unfinished project at the moment, an A4000D Toaster with a Merlin RTG card, and a semifunctional A2000 chassis and mb for spare parts. I use all three of them--the A4000 and the A2500 most often. I also own 2 PC laptops--one fairly new and modern which does an excellent job with WinUae and one late 90s thinkpad that I mostly use for DOS applications such as my ROM burner. And I also have an Atari Mega 4 ST that I put together from the parts of 2 Atari Megas and one dead ST. This is used mainly for midi sequencing although at one time I played around with Atari software delelopment and actually wrote some code for the ST. By the time I got the A2500, I had abandoned any aspirations at coding and have used my Amigas for what they're good at: 2d and 3d graphics. No games these days except Ebay which is more than enough and the prizes are real.

I have 6 Amigas. Three A2000s, one with a GVP '030 and Toaster. One with a DBM '030 and Supergen, one vanilla... or 'bog standard' as some would have it. I've also got three A1000s in various states... one of them is my original machine purchased new bacin in the Elder Days.
But they're all enjoying retirement at the moment, most of my Amiga stuff is done under UAE.

I've forgotten,
i used Amiga since hh1987.
First Amiga R.I.P.
then A1200 R.I.P.
Then CD32.
I gave to my brother in Law. R.I.P.
Today, Amiga is aged.
But for all the times, Apps where amazing.
Untill today you could do amazing thigs with
Amiga.
Breathtakink, for your minds!!

Just one a4000d (060/PPC/CVPPC) - I'm no freak, not me - no sir!

Oh, and the other a4000d/040 which I bought a few weeks ago out of curiosity.
Erm, and 3 spare a4000 motherboards (one of which is a corpse).
And a spare a3640 from the first a4000d, a non-working CSPPC which I've been meaning to send to JJB at the Amigacentre, and a non-working CSmk2 which is probably beyond repair.

Oh, and 3 a1200 motherboards without ROMs, and a Micronik z3 busboard which was working, but I can't test anymore as I have no ROMS in my a1200s.
And a whole host of zorro boards and i/o extenders. And a few midi samplers. And a sound enhancer. And the external disk drives.

Eeek, and the Amigaone which I'm thinking of selling.

But that's just because I had a bit of a clear out a while ago and got rid of the dead wood.

TrevorDick = WINNER of most Amiga Computers owned!

My 21 are just a drop in the bucket compared to what you have.

Actually I want to thin my collection down to about 10 or so in the near future.

I am concentrating on original boxed software now to enhance my collection.  That plus a few bits of third party hardware should satisfy my urge for Amiga collecting (that is until the awesome, earth shattering, new Amigas are released and everyone on the planet will throw away all their PC's and Mac's)

I think I will be picking up an SX32 Pro within the next week and I am really happy to have found that piece of Amiga history.  (Shhhhhhhh!!! don't tell anyone else that I have found one for sale)   :-D

pssst: how many do you have? , i have over 3000 (can't remeber the exact number right now) boxed Amiga Orginals but since 2004 i switched my main collecting away from the Amiga and onto consoles, about 1000 ps1 , 643 (iirc) ps2 and 131 PSP titles now.

And ah yes i have about 100 DC and 60 Saturn titles aswell, everyone boxed.

i have allready supplied pictures and a interview to GamesTM magazine who wants interviews/pics form all bigtime collectors or special ones who only collect special stuff etc.

@ trevor , man you keep growing :) , you should send in some pictures to gamesTM aswell imo :)

@lempkee

I actually collect all Commodore computers including the complete 8-bit range & the Commodore PC range and have over 40 machines in this collection:-

2 x KIM-1, 20 x PET's, 2 x VIC20, 2 x C64, C128, C128D, C116, 3 x Plus/4, 2 x C16, C232, 2 x SX-64, Commodore Max, 64GS, PC-I, PC10-III, PC40-III, 2 x Commodore PC Laptop, Commodore 900(unix)

Again I am always looking to fill gaps in my collection, particularly the Commodore PC range.

Also forgot to include 2 x A1-SE's to my Amiga collection. Also I mainly use the A1-XE, A4000T & Pegasos II, although I have always got several projects on the go at any one time.  Current WIP includes:-

i) setting up Debian Linux Sarge on A1-XE
ii) building an A1200 tower with a mediator card and Blizzard PPC accelerator
iii) Amithlon x86 Laptop

Ofcourse, i like also like to have a nice workink ffmpeg on
my miggy also mplayer(68k) only to say folks "hi, it's work".
Current situation is!!!
WSome people develop stuff for AO4/Morphos.
But most users around!! Still using "original AO3.9"
or emulinated".
But for this most guy's,,,,, most developers have no interest for

I know, but I meant NO MORE COMPUTERS, not all the hardware and software to go with my collection.  What use is a computer without cool peripherals and software to use on it?

Actually, if I found  the couple of Amiga models I don't have in my collection (A1500, A2500, and different manufacturer's of the A4000T from the one I have, Escom) I think, I would be very tempted to buy those Amiga computers.

I think it really is an addiction, as there is no rational reason to spend money on more computers than I can ever possibly use, and I am sure I will never recoup even 1/10th the money I have spent on the collection if I ever decide to sell all of it.

Don't be so sure about that.  Prices are going up, not down.  Besides, even if you recoup 1/10th of your investment, thats 1/10th more than if you'd bought PC hardware.

So, just curious, and im tempted to post first, but just want to ready your storied...how many Amigas do you own??    Details please!!!

Any excuse to tell the world that I have just (yesterday) had a 1996 A4000T arrive.  :-D

Ok, the list
A500 (KS1.3 4meg fast 1meg chip, A590, A570 (Not at the same time), Vector 570 SCSI, A520, downclocker card (think action replay knockoff, video master capture card and a few other minor bits and bobs)

A second A500 (ks1.3, A501)
A500+ (Original, seal still intact)
A600 (ks3.1, 560meg hdd and a dead viper630)

A1000 (512kb chip, ks1.1-1.3 with keyboard, shield still fixed in place, looks like its never been removed)
Spare A1000 motherboard, missing top module otherwise may work.

A1200 (ks3.0, Apollo 1240, 32meg fast, 2.1gig hdd, Archos Overdrive external harddrive, vidi capture box and more)
deaded A1200 (bought for keyboard as the one in the above unit was failing, motherboard has a fault (gonna strip it for parts anyhow) includes case and bits)

A2000 (ks2.04, first German version based on the A1000, 512kb chip ram, unupgradable, A2630 030 card (4meg), A2632 (fully loaded with 112Meg) buddha flash ide, slot loading cd, 120meg hdd, two floppy drives (one not working, dunno why) strange SCSI/parallel/serial/rs422, A2090 (none autobooting) and A2300 genlock, was new in box.)

Spare A2000 motherboard, missing all chips. (scrap tbh)

A3000 (ks3.1, os3.9. 030 @ 25mhz, 8up ram card @ 4meg, buddha IDE, 525meg scsi hdd, 4meg on board (total 8) with lithium cell hack)

A4000D (ks3.1, 16meg fast ram, 120meg hdd, A3640, temperamental little thing, total hit or miss if it works.. circuitboard damage, gotta sort it out.

A4000DT (ks3.1 os3.9, A3640 (Dead cyberstorm ppc 060/ppc 233), IOBlix with ethernet module, GVP Spectrum, Emplant, Power flyer 4000, Prometheus card (not actally fitted at the moment) 5gig hdd, scsi DVD Ram drive, scsi Yamaha CDRW, SCSI 5 disk 16x CD multichanger.)

A4000T (Arrived yesterday, ks3.1 os3.5 or 3.9 (ive only ran it an hour, anyhow it will get 3.9 and I will downgrade my A3K to 3.5)  A3640 card, 16meg fast, scsi cd drive, scsi 1gig hdd otherwise as standard except missing front door, scratched case and blown ide... floppy seems a bit funny too)

4x A4000T blank boards and 1x blank A3640 card.

CD32 (with TVR (?) modem and remote otherwise standard)
CD32 (Standard but seems to have a faulty cd drive.. only recently happened)

CDTV (Elbox ram card with keyboard, remote, mouse and floppy drive &  Das-Vector port board)
CDTV (Original with floppy drive, mouse & remote)
CDTV (ks3.1, 520meg hdd scsi, Amitrix SCSI-TV, CD1300(1? bahh) genlock, Prototype CDTV 68000 upgrade made by Phase5, 2x 64kb memory cards for front slot, keyboard, remote, floppy, IR tracker ball, brick-ette mouse adaptor, new proms, cdtv mouse... and loads of other stuff)
Prototype CDTV (with flash board, property of Commodore sticker, FULL paperwork (a large box full) on the CDTV including manufacturing info and PCB layout.. has a nice IR module rework, uses a CPU with bits in the socket.)
Spare CDTV motherboard.. may work tbh, if I stop nicking chips off it. :D

CDTV CR prototype (one of 6 known to exist, new custom chipset called grace and beauty, space for FMV mpeg decoder.. currently gets stuck in a reset loop, may also have a dieing psu, will look at it soon)

Index Access (Just the board, faulty, gets stuck when loading kickstart.... I need a logic analyzer dam it ;-) )

Draco, faulty, ram controller chip suspect, again will fix when I have time.. if I can, very interesting board though.

Thats it for now, I need to wait for my finances to recover a bit then its time to upgrade the A4000T.

I have a load of other Zorro cards, A2088's, two faulty picasso IV's, old z2 ram cards, etc.

Then there is the software collection... but you didnt ask for that and I aint counting or listing them :P

Oh and excluding the A4000T I have service manuals for all of them and a few others.

Am I a Die-Hard Amiga user? yeah I think I am.

Well... I should have about 10 "babies":

A500 Plus - A590 - 4MB (my first Amiga and my main machine up to 1999...)
A1000 512kb
A1200 C= (was 060, now waiting for 030/50)
A1200 AT
A1200HD AT (170MB)
A2000 020/16 12MB and other stuff
A3000 060/50 - 128MB - CV64 - Ariadne - Toccata - Catweasel II (my actual main Amiga)
CDTV (my third Amiga, used in mid '90s as CD-ROM drive for A500+ through ParNet/ProNet)
CD32 (my second Amiga)

C64 (my really first computer!)
C128D

... and a lot of spare parts such as mainboards, floppy drives, PSU, mouses, keyboards, about 100 custom chips and so on.
Everything is in excellent-mint conditions.

My Amigas will live forever!!!  :-)

2. A2500/060/PIV/Delphina/Subway/X-Surf - use this for mp3s
3. A3000D - this is pretty much stock - looking for a cpu upgrade. From this thread I know where all of the accelerators are!

1 x A1200, BPPC/Bvision + lots of extras

1 x A2000, 030/6MB Picasso2, Buddha

Incoming:

A4000D, CybervisionPPC+CyberstormPPC

Its always good to have a couple of Amigas around if you like the system.

An incomplete hardware collection:

2 x A1200's, one owned since new
2 x A600
1 x A2000
1 x A2500
1 x CD32, owned since new
1 x A500
1 x A4000

And some emulation:

Amiga Forever Premium, AmiKit

Wait, is this some kind of record? I own ONE A500. Lovely little thing. Just wait to I get an accelerator!

But Games, though are something else. Must have like 4 square meters of floppies now. Heheh.

Everytime we move it is hoped that the Amiga's will move to the tip... no way!  Especially not with this thread!  Thankyou!

I have 2xA500, 1xA1200 (heavily expanded) and 1xCD32 (if I was on an Amiga right now, that would have been Alt+3, Alt+2 ;-) ) and have sent 3xA500's to the trash as they didn't work and had rust all through them :-( .

I currently use eUAE for development and intend to remove the batteries from my old machines in the coming holiday (provided I can find my soldering iron from the last move).

And lastly, I still prefer the feel of a real Amiga to emulation, but I, sadly, don't have any more desk space.

Have two 500's but the two gems in my small collection is my CD32 upgraded with SX32MK2, 8MB and Flashcard with OS3.9.

And my most beloved, the A600 with 030@40Mhz and 8MB, Flashcard, the Chipram upgrade (2MB), midi-input and masplayer pro for flawless mpeg (mp3) playback. Also OS3.9.

Last but not least I also have another fun machine wich is a genuine Commodore i486 Laptop with 4MB Ram :)

Recently had;
A1200/030-40Mhz.
2 A500's 1Mb.
2 1084s

All gone to lack of use and desk space.

Now;
1 long-dead A500 in parts in the shed.
1 GP2X with UAE4all = Handheld Amigafun.
1 HTPC with WinUAE = OCS,ECS,AGA,RTG Amigafun.

Happy and uncluttered. ;-)  :-)

This is what I have now:

A3000 030 25MHz, 2MB Chip, 4MB Fast, 2.1GB HDD (used often)
A1200 030 50MHz, 2MB Chip, 32MB Fast, 1.4GB HDD (buggy POS)
A2000 030 40MHz, 1MB Chip, 8MB Fast, 350MB HDD (sits in the cupboard)
A500 1MB Chip, 8MB Fast, 50MB HDD (gets plugged into the TV for retro gaming)
A1000 512KB Chip (sits in the cupboard)

That makes 5, I used to have more but, I needed more space, so they were sold off.

Might as well reveal my collection too.

- 1 x A500, kick 1.3, with 2G GVP SCSI, 1M chip + 4M fast
- 2 x A500, defunct (spare parts), vanilla
- 1 x A600, KS3.1, 40G hdd
- 1 x A1200, vanilla
- 1 x A4000, KS3.1, 40G hd, X-Surf, CSPPC 68060, 2M chip + 80M fast, PicassoIV, CDRW ++

Non-Amigas worth mentioning:

- C64 + Action Replay + 1541 + MMC64 any day now
- C128

Then there's about 9 or 10 more non-commodore machines.

And, yeah, I use E-UAE, too.

None. My A4000T/PPC went to the dump this weekend, along with all software, magazines and peripherals. Just having a last look at some Amiga websites before I delete my bookmarks, then my involvement with Amiga is finished.

It was great to start with, but for me it's pointless to even think about staying. AOS doesn't provide the facilities I need in the 21st century.

He probably is. But not because he decided to leave, but because he lost a lot of money. You can make a pretty good price with such a system on ebay.

Oh, BTW, I have an A3000, A4000, A2500, some A2000 and A500, and an A1000, of course.

Although if it is near us and I did go and get it I'd probably let u have the PPC Accelerator (for half of the petrol cost)... as much as I'd like it, I'd rather have the 4000T system and it'd only be fair to let you have something... :)

No, never received them - I'd assumed you had never got around to sending them (I assume they haven't been cashed out of your account :-o ).
I (think) I got rid of the LS120s in a clear out just before I moved house in February (...quickly rummages in spares box...) yep, no more ls120s here I'm afraid.

iirc you were building an in-car PC or an in-car amiga? Did you ever get it finished?

Just looking through pha_q's previous posts he mentions Lord Lucan and Stoke City, so must live in the UK somewhere!

Damn!

PS - If I find it first you can have the a4000T ;-)

Not angry, just frustrated at the time. Everything Amiga turns out to be a waste of money. Bought Amithlon, it got discontinued. Bought a Mediator, and there are about a dozen cards supported. Got a setup to run OS4, and it still hasn't been released for legacy systems.

As for dumping my system, I've tried selling it, and had nothing but clowns offering a pittance for it. I'm not shelling out thousands of pounds for someone else's benefit. As far as I'm concerned, a poor return is worse than no return.

PS. If anyone wants to go rummaging through garbage, it was dumped in Manchester.

I didn't know you were selling it... I either totally missed it or don't check the places that you had it up for sale.
I wouldn't have been able to offer you massive amounts of cash up-front, but I'm sure we could have worked out some pay monthly thing (Done that with a few other people on expesive hardware purchases).

I've sent you a pm asking which dump it was sent to. Manchester is a big place, and that's an awful lot of rubbish without narrowing it down a bit.

I think I remember your postings on Amibench - you wanted £1000 minimum if I remember rightly. It has been quite a while since you last posted it on there though.

I guess at the end of the day it was yours to do what you wanted with... Personally I'd have given it away to someone, but it's all down to personal choice what we do with our stuff.
Some people will ebay it, some people will hide it away for year and some people will throw it away.

I guess most people are upset about it because it's a nice piece of hardware that lots of people want to have, but unfortunately not many people have that kinda money, so to see it be thrown out like that is a little distressing. (Especially to me, kind-of-collector that I am)

Previous attempts at selling it have been too much bother. Now I want the space back. Same with the PCs I binned, along with countless books and videos. It's no use to me anymore, therefore it's junk. Sure, I could have sold it eventually, maybe split the system up, but that would mean it hanging around the house for god knows how long, and placing more adverts. Easier to drive to the tip.

It wasn't just a nice system, it was a top of the line, maxxed out, dogs bollocks of a system. Power tower, 3 scsi HDs, CDRW, CSPPC, CybervisionPPC, Mediator, Ariadne, tons of software. Total cost was somewhere near 3 thousand.

Unfortunately, the responses I got were all along the lines of "It's old, I'll give you £200", or "Good luck, you must think we're stupid to buy that old junk". So I decided not to bother trying to find a "good home", or even a bad one.

Edit: And if you thinks it's distressing for you, how do you think I feel? Sold or dumped, this was my dream machine, and I've lost it. It took years to put this together, but my Amiga dreams ended long ago.

IMHO you should have listed on eBay. If it was an A4000 with PPC and in reasonable condition you would have got at least £500+ for it.  Breaking it down into components you probably would have got £700-800+ depending on the other contents of the A4000. Trick is not to charge a large upfront price, just let the Amiga collectors bid or it.  You would have been very surprised what people (including myself) are willing to pay for quality Amiga components. I have found the vast majority of Amiga eBay seller very good to deal with.

However as you say it's your choice to do with as you wish.  Just a shame you dumped a piece of retro computer history.

I thought of that long ago, but the problem with that strategy is that some parts are guaranteed to sell, like the CSPPC. Once that's gone, if you can't sell the rest you're left with a computer with no processor. Bit of a double edged sword really.

A4000 motherboard alone go for quite a lot... (I know 'cause mine's just died :( )

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=008&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=180128171868&rd=1&rd=1 for example..

Then the cards would probably have gone for £50 - £100 each

Yup, I agree... And if I'd known about it I'd have driven straight over to Manchester for it (I'm in Ireland) and given you your £1,000 this weekend. I think it's a very strange thing to do to be honest, selfish, irrational and bitter. It makes no financial sense and hasn't proven any point to anyone, least of all the people you're disillusioned with. I understand dumping PC hardware (hell, I've done it, what's the going rate for a Pentium 1 class machine these days?), but being a classic Amiga which will never be replaced it's just like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

1x A1200 DIY towered in an old AT PC tower, pretty much maxed out apart from PPC... 060/66, 192MB RAM, 80 & 40GB HDDs with SCSI-IDE adaptors, SCSI cd-rom, SCSI cd burner, Zip250, Catweasel, Mediator with SB128, Voodoo 3-3000, TV Tuner and 10/100 NIC, clock port splitter, Hypercom 3+, 2x 3.5" and 1x 5.25" floppies, LCD status screen on the front, SD/FF, OS3.9...

1x A1200 desktop which died and was cannibalised for parts so doesn't really count

1x A1200 in a CD player Hi-Fi case, 030/50, 32MB, 40GB, CD-ROM, MAS-Player, LCD text display, IR remote, Wifi... The MP3 playing machine!

1x A1200 desktop with 030/50, 32MB, 30GB 2.5" HDD, internal CD-Rom, absolutely mint case, the retro gaming machine which travels with me.

1x A600, 1.4GB HDD, built into a custom case hidden in a drawer, LCD text display, +1MB chip RAM, IR remote, lots of DIY hardware and software for controlling all sorts of things, like the stereo, lights, lamp, etc. in my old room. Also made a fantastic, extremely flexible alarm clock :-D

Aaaannnd... That's it!

I own several Amiga computers too, unfortunately they no longer offer me the things I need & frequently use, so I've moved on to Linux until I see a final outcome for Amiga.  I occasionally fire 'em up for nastagia.

I'm glad this is back on topic. I know a lot of people get disallusioned on the very emotive subject of keeping amigas going, but each to his own eh?

Anyway, as for how many I have got?

My main computer, which I am using right now, and use daily for everything:

Spec:

Amiga 1200 towered with
Blizzard 040/40
64Mb RAM
20 Gb hard drive
6 Gb hard drive
Mediator
Spider
Soundblaster
Voodoo5500
Realtek fast ethernet card
FastATA
CD ROM
CD RW
PC-Key 1200 interface
Cocolino interface
Scan doubler with home made monitor switcher
17" TFT
Epson Scanner
Canon S200 printer
OS3.9 BB2

Also have a homemade A600 laptop, currently in bits as the homemade case was literally that, homemade, and consequently has fallen apart!

Spec:

A600
Apollo 030/30
32 Mb RAM
4 Gb 2.5" hard drive
Slimline CD ROM
Slimline floppy
PC-Key 600 interface
Mini keyboard
Serial trackball mouse (soon to be replaced with a PS2 pad)
PCMCIA 10/100Mb ethernet adapter
Scandoubler
Canibalised12" desktop TFT screen
Powered from a mini ATX power supply

Hopefully when time allows, I shall build it in to its new case, a briefcase.

In addition I have enough spares to build another 4 1200's and 2 600's! (Much to the wifes annoyance!)

Add another A1200 to my list...

Got a busboard on the way (hopefully soon) courtesy of amigakit.com (great shop :D) and will be building it up in the coming weeks...

It's either gunna be a rackmount box or a fulltower case... Although I would quite like to put it in a desktop case... Maybe I should make a nice clear acrylic case at work.... hmmmm... *cogs whirring*

My tip for searching for an A4000 is get one off ebay that's "non-working" or "untested".. Usually the problem with them is that they just need the chip ram or chips reseating.. That's how I originally got mine :) Unfortunately since I got mine it got damp and corroded.. so now I'm A4000 motherboard hunting :)

I own a working A4000 which I paid money for) and a non-working A2000 which I got for free, but was never able to get working.

I was not an Amiga user in its heyday, but my grandfather was. I don't really use the Amiga for much. I played some games and demos on it and I might port my current project to Amiga OS using it, but it largely sits idle.

Well...according to my mother i have "a lot of crap taking place in your (mine) apartment!"

According to my (ex) girfriend, i had "a lot of useless trash, taking a lot of money which could be invested in, for example, more clothes to me (her)"

You can imagine her face when we started dating (about 4 years ago). I would tell her "I have to be with an Amiga (Amiga = female friend in spanish). She would be so so jealous...you cant imagine how funny it was each and every time

Things got a little different when she moved with me.
Every time the Postal Office man would ring my bell, an argument would begin with sayings like "if one machines comes inside this flat, one machine has to go" etc etc etc

It was a "fight", like the Roses film, but at the end, i won!!!

 :-D

Oh, BTW, forgot to add to my collection all my Power Flyers, 4-Eide adapters and stuff like that, and the Chelsea/Bayern Munchen/ Paris Saint Germain shirts...

Have a lot of funny stories to tell...maybe ni next posts

Time to go to watch 24 now

I have a few..and have sold a few..
Sold a A1000 to a gent in Switzerland... :-)..
Sold 2 A2000HDs to a high school..

but I still have a CD32
and two A4000Ts..
and a A1000 motherboard...
Had an A4000 040 MINT even the battery was MINT..but sold that one :-(
still have pictures of her though :-)

and Im hot on the trail of 50 A1200...will know more this week..
Oh and I had a A1000 in its orig. box and an A500+

this not to mention all the Commodore stuff I have..lol :-)..

I will be honest when I say that NOTHING (electronic) has gotten me more excited than when the AMIGA was released and when I finally got one.
That is 100% the truth..ok the Toaster for Amiga was good2..lol
And I bet that is true for MANY people ..even those who have left the Amiga for obvious reasons..and would die to come to get that same feeling that the creative possiblities were endless.

Well one product has given me a bit of that same creative outlet..and thats my SIgma SD10 and Sd14 digital SLR cameras..That Foveon approach to digital photos..gets me going..hehe..

Sorry for rambling on and on..

Lets not forget ....Andy Warhol was an AMIGA fan!!!..
Oh and you can see the pics I have posted here..

Add another to my list (damn, I couldn't resist), a brand new, never used, absolute mint A1000, boxed with all original packaging materials and paperwork.  Well, I am a collector after all (that is the only excuse I can use to justify the madness).

Also picked up a ............SX32 Pro!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the one item that I had given up on came to me from a new friend that wrote and said he needed a few bucks (thank you very much again).  That will go very nicely with my brand new, never used CD32.

So much for not buying any more hardware.

Oh well, the sickness continues.  Don't bother sending any get well cards.

Removed all chips (which appeared not to be damaged) + expansion cards (and kept them).  Trust me, the condition they came to me in, they were already dead.  And I payed for them at that.

sadly i have seen people throw out high specced Amiga's aswell as other rare/hard to find stuff.

I recall the airport nearby threw out their complete toaster/vlab etc range with the actual Monitors/machines too, sadly not everything was salvaged but most was thanks to someone spotting them throwing it out into the containers.

My brother works in an electro store where they also have a electro press, this squeeze the stuff into square items (1by1 M or so), his house is full of "junk" which works fine and always have but the old owners toss the "junk" out as soon as they see something better in the shop.

the value of a laptop is indeed questionable but i would never say nothanks to a IBM thinkpad laptop with 1gb ram and 80gb hdd aswell as a dvd burner and a 1+ghz cpu.

Or a chipped ps2 with network adapter and harddrive, it even was in the orginal packaging....

I myself threw out a defunkt cd32 some years ago, i regret it but it went by a mistake...but lol there was nothing inside of any value anyways since i repaird my cubo aswell as an cd32 with parts from the broken one.

Blimey - my list will be miniscule compared to some on these pages - some of you could open up shops!  Or museums if you don't want to sell your kit :-)

Well, here goes...

Amiga 1200 (Computer Combat pack).
Amiga 1200 Amiga Magic pack (Brand New never opened - still has Power Computers sealing tape on the box).
Amiga 1200 in Eyetech EZ Tower (again brand new as supplied by Eyetech with Amiga Magic pack and PC type keyboard).
Apollo 040 for above.
Amiga 4000 030 unmodified
Amiga 4000 030 with PPC (040) and Picasso IV.
Various add-ons and bits and lots of s/w titles - too many to mention.

I also have a couple of C64's both with 1541's and one of the best games of the time on 5.25" floppy - Loco by Alligator Software (it has a Jean Michelle Jarre tune on it showing SID off very well).  Both my 64's are the original wedge shape - some people call them bull nose.

I used to have a CD32 with SX1 expansion but sold that for some daft reason.

Cheers

Apart from my other computers, I own a heavily expanded A1200, an only slightly less expanded A2000, and a to be expanded A3000.

All of them in full working order and regularly used. I use my A1200 most, but chances are this will change to the A2000, depending on when my Blizzard 2040 and CV64-3D arrive.

For some reason, I am not able to own any type of computer without adding extra hardware to it... :-)

Also my brother in law has an unused A500 that I keep dropping hints about, one day it will be mine!!! :madashell:

And I have a ZX81 somewhere (boxed with thermal printer), must look for it one day.
