Title: Courtney Love on Piracy
Post by: the_leander on June 13, 2007, 06:48:28 PM
Today I want to talk about piracy and music. What is piracy? Piracy is the act of stealing an artist's work without any intention of paying for it. I'm not talking about Napster-type software.

I'm talking about major label recording contracts. (http://archive.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/06/14/love/print.html)

Dunno about you lot, but to me she makes an awful lot of sense.

Seven years have passed since then, how has the industry changed?

Absolutely and one of the reasons I no longer have any desire to make a career out of music.

(The other reason is that I'm a talentless twunt. ;-))

I've never really liked Courtney, but she is talking a lot of sense there.

Love this sentence though:

street scouts who drive around in vans handing out black Korn T-shirts and backwards baseball caps.

Dammit, I used to wear forwards baseball caps backwards, I didn't know there were specific backwards ones :-P

It's gotten more bold in its attempts to dominate and destroy anything that looks like it could be good for artists not under its control?

The general public are less and less inclined to listen to anything they say and are now actually starting to fight back when threatened?

Small steps on the latter I grant you, but every journey etc etc...
