Title: A4000T zorro3 problems
Post by: PaSha on June 22, 2003, 08:30:52 PM
Hi, I just bought myself an A4000T (Escom), and sadly discovered that it refuses to recognize any Zorro3 boards. I've tried with several boards(A4091 FastlaneZ3, and two different PicassoIV's) with no success. Zorro2 boards (and the P-IV in Zorro2 mode) work just fine.
Aaaargh!!!
Can anyone give me a hint on what the cause of the problem is?
Please..... I've dreamed about owning an A4000T for years, I'd hate to have to send it back to the seller...  :-?

Get version 11 of the Buster chip.

Yep... Buster chip was my thought, too.  Though the ESCOM boards *SHOULD* have been Buster 11's.  (Of course, when Escom started running out of parts, who knows what parts they used!!)

Check out Warren Block's Amiga 4000 hardware information (http://wonkity.com/~wblock/a4000hard/main.html) page.  It's really an excellent source for all your A4000 questions!  It's saved my arse numerous times.

I believe he also has a "definitive Buster" section dealing with Zorro 3 issues.

Here it is... (http://wonkity.com/~wblock/a4000hard/defibust.html)

Perhaps a faulty buster 11?

It's got a surface mounted buster 11, like all (afaik) A4000T's.
Note that zorro 2 boards work perfectly.

Hi.
I've now removed the buster from the A4000T and tried it in a A4000D...
Unfortunately, it works, which busts my only theory...
Any hints on what else it might be?

regards,
Paul

Ill take this in norwegian ;).

Prøv et annet Zorro3 kort en de 2 du har prøvd har hørt begge de kan bøgge! klem i et CV64 kort eller et eller annet prøv alle du finner som er Zorro3! har du ikke andre lån :).

Hello,

I hope this helps, I alway found that with my 4000T I had problems with Zorro cards  and found that it just took the right combination of cards in certain slots.  The Picasso IV had to be in the first video slot and the 2nd slot had to be open, then I could put what ever card I wanted in the next slot but the slot after that had to be the Power IDE Gold and well I think you get the idea.  I would also mention that this happend regardless of which cpu card I used (Amiga 040,060, or CyberStorm 060 or PPC).  Try rearranging the cards and I think you might get it going.   All the same good luck my fellow Amigan.   :-D

I've already tried moving cards around, and trying them one by one. But I'll try some more, I've cleaned the motherboard and I will install a new buster tomorrow... who knows... might work...
